Loyalty is about staying true to a person, including behind their back.
Like Jeffry Holland pointed out, "The crowning characteristic of love is always loyalty."
A key cultural force is of course the family. As Mario Puzo said, "The strength of a family, like the strength of any army, lies in its loyalty to each other."
But beware, some people aren't loyal to you, they are loyal to their need of you. Once their need changes, so does their loyalty. Stop expecting loyalty from people who can't even give you honesty.
Never let your loyalty make a fool of you. Be discriminating from the start, be true to who you really are. Loyalty needs to be deserved. Respect is earned... honesty is appreciated... trust is gained... loyalty is returned.
