Herbs - An Ancient Remedy
By Mohit Puri
Aarogya is the equilibrium state of the Panch Tatvas of human body namely Fire (Agni), Water (jala), Ether (akasha), Earth (prithvi) and Air (vayu). Diseases occur when this balance is disturbed. To get back the equilibrium our Vedas have put down the science of life in form of Ayurveda which is a gift that nature has very generously bestowed upon us.
The relevance of Ayurveda in today's world lies in the fact that this science is the product of an ancient civilization and culture that postulates man as part of and as the microcosm of the universe, the macrocosm.
According to Ayurveda every phenomenon in the universe can be found to take place in the individual, albeit in a subtle form. Every individual act has therefore an impact on the environment (in a very broad sense of the term) and on the universe.
Ayurveda is unique in that it is deeply rooted in traditional cultures and at the same time emanating from man's interaction with the environment or the macrocosm and hence applicable universally.
