Download Instructions for your PDF ebooks:


For Windows Users

1. You'll need a copy of the free Acrobat Reader program to read and print the PDF file. You can download the Reader from Adobe by going here.

2. Right Click on the link for the PDF you want to download. [Many people left click instead of right click - make sure and right click on the download link.] Depending on your browser you should see the following menu...

Choose 'Save Target As.' If you use Netscape/Firefox choose 'Save Link As.'

3. After choosing 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As,' you'll get a dialogue box asking for the location at which you want to save the file. You can save the file to your 'Desktop' (that's the first screen you see when you start up your computer) or to any other directory, for example in your 'My Documents' directory.

Some people save properly - but don't know where they saved the book on their computer! Just try it again. After you right click and choose 'Save Target As,' you get to browse the directories on your hard disk and choose where to save the PDF. Your 'Desktop' or a default 'Downloads' directory are easy places to find it again.

4. To open the file and read it in Adobe Reader, locate the file on your desktop or chosen directory and double click the icon for filename.pdf.

For Mac Users

Hold the Option button and click on the link for the PDF you want to download.

The file will be saved to the default 'Downloads' folder or to the folder that you have designated for downloads in your browser preferences. (Do that now if you haven't already).

If you don't hold down the Option button when you click on the link, the PDF file will simply be opened directly in the Safari browser. You may also chose to use 'Acrobat Reader' as a browser plug-in. To save the file to your hard disc you can then just File>Save (as with a web page) or if using the Acrobat plug-in, click on the floppy disc icon in the toolbar at top/left.

Tips on Using PDFs

An Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) file is a formatted document, such as a brochure or book, saved as a single file that is easy to view, save or print. You need the free Adobe Reader program to use PDFs. When you install the program it also creates a plugin to view PDFs directly from within your web browser

Opening the document
When you select the document, it will open in your browser (if you are clicking on a link from a web page online) or in its own window (if you are using a PDF saved to your computer and double-click on the file)

Adobe Reader has top and bottom tool bars. If you open the PDF within a browser, these tool bars will be 'nested ' inside the browser's tools bars. In both the top and bottom tool bars, you'll see arrows that allow you to read through the document, page by page

In the bottom tool bar, you'll also see an indicator of which page you are on (such as '10 of 125'). Remember that this numbering makes a count of all the pages in the document, including covers or other extra pages. If the content pages within the document itself have page numbers printed on them, then their page numbering may be slightly different from the page count for the entire PDF

You can also scroll through the document, or use the linked bookmarks or thumbnails on the left hand side to move among the pages

In the bottom tool bar, you'll see icons that allow you to allow you to view one page at a time, or multiple pages

Page size
In the top tool bar, you'll see an icon with a 'plus ' sign and another with a 'minus' sign. Use them to increase or decrease the page size

You'll also see a drop down menu that lists percentages ('100%') and options like 'Fit Width.' You can use these to increase or decrease the size of the page

The icon that looks like a pair of binoculars is the 'Find' option. Use it to locate specific words or phrases in the document

The icon that looks like a floppy disk is the 'Save' option. Click the icon and then give the file a name and choose a location to save it. Be sure you make note of where you save the file on your computer

The icon that looks like a printer is the 'Print' option. Print Tip: When you choose 'Print,' you can select a single page, a range of pages, or the entire document.
