These days, solo travelling is all the rage, mainly amongst the younger generations. Females especially are diving into their freedom and enjoy their time travelling alone. Realistically, there is no better way to spend your time than exploring historical places in Europe, visiting gorgeous beaches, and drinking sparkling champagne. If you’re a solo female traveller looking for solo female travel destinations, check out these top five destinations.
1. Glasgow, Scotland
According to many people around the world who have been lucky enough to visit Glasgow, there is no place quite as spectacular or friendly. It is the largest city in Scotland, situated on the River Clyde. Glasgow is extremely well-known for its sheer beauty as well as its beautiful and thriving shopping districts.
It also provides a deep and serene culture that everyone can enjoy, no matter their situation. Every year, Glasgow lovingly welcomes a huge number of tourists who can’t wait to experience all it has to offer. Whether you are looking for experiences, culture, food, shopping, or deep history, you are bound to find something that grabs your attention.
The slogan ‘people make Glasgow’ really does stand out because it is so true! In no time at all, you will be having friendly conversations and even a drink with the lovely locals. It is a great place for solo travel for women.
If you are a historical buff like me, then you might also like to explore a few castles. Scoland has many of them. One of my favourites is Dunans Castle - it is approximately a 1.5 hour drive but totally worth it.
2. Braubach, Germany
When travelling throughout Europe, it is important to take advantage of all the beautiful small towns you will come across. Perhaps one of the quaintest and spectacular is none other than Braubach, based in Germany. It is nestled among gorgeous forests and stunning vineyards.
This enjoyable medieval town dates back around 1300 years, and it also boasts the most amazing view of Marksburg Castle, the untouched miracle. The picturesque castle is situated dramatically along the Rhine and is perhaps one of the best tourist destinations in not only Braubach but all of Germany. The charming town is lined with perfect half-timbered buildings, and the centre of town is the perfect place to relax, grab a bite to eat or find a seat for a drink.
It is a good idea to sit down and take in the gorgeous scenery while you’re there as it is one of the best solo female travel destinations.
3. Bologna, Italy
Calling all foodies, this one's for you! If you’re a food-obsessed solo traveller, Bologna, based in Italy, is the best place for you to be. Not only is it jam-packed with centuries of history, but it also offers such insane food options. Bologna offers all of the thrills and riches that the other cities do; however, it also offers far fewer hassles than the others, making it the perfect place for solo female travel.
For this lovely city, it is all in the name because Bologna has also been nicknamed ‘the fat one’ due to its status as a culinary heavyweight. Compared to places like Florence and Rome, it is far more accessible and affordable. It is said that its large university population keeps it grounded and free-spirited. Not only can you wander safely around the medieval and enchanting streets, but you can also wander throughout the wineries and farm-to-table restaurants.
4. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Often found on the bucket lists of people around the world is the ever so stunning Amsterdam. It has had to work hard to break its reputation for marijuana use and reckless parties. Now, it has been able to stray from that and earn a new and far more in-depth reputation that involves far more.
When it comes to solo travel for women, Amsterdam ticks all of the boxes. It is a safe, progressive, and generally happy city that is full of friendly people. The canal network is definitely a favourite, and the art scene is also a point of interest. Two exciting places to visit are the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House; both are filled with a dramatic history.
The large freelance population is to thank for the friendly and buzzing cafés and the enchanting bars. No matter which part you venture to, there is always something to see.
5. Palma De Mallorca, Spain
Spain is known for being a packed tourist destination; however, there are some serene spots to enjoy when looking for solo female travel destinations. If you’re looking for a lovely Mediterranean island break that isn’t littered with tourists, Palma should be at the very top of your list. You can enjoy the enchanting turquoise waters, delightful sunshine, all you can eat tapas, and the whitewashed buildings.
It is incredibly affordable to stay here, and it is completely safe for solo female travel. It is all you could want in a destination.
