Superyacht in Thailand

Thailand’s superyacht sales have steadily increased over the years as Thais and Southeast Asian residents alike have gained an interest in yachting. Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other parts of Southeast and East Asia and home to some of the wealthiest people in the world, many of whom enjoy the private luxury of owning a superyacht.

Frequent visitors to Thailand too enjoy life aboard a superyacht. Many superyachts have been sold in Thailand to international celebrities or business people, using the Southeast Asian hub country as a departure point for many cross-ocean voyages.

What is a Superyacht?

Many may be wondering what exactly a superyacht is and how it differs from a normal yacht. After all, aren’t yachts “super” enough on their own?

Superyachts don’t have a specific size requirement, but they are typicallydefined as yachts exceeding 20 meters in length. They additionally can host around ten or more people in addition to an active crew.

Yachts, in contrast, are smaller and more manageable by a single user. For example, a young family can own and operate a yacht on a weekend trip while living aboard, but they would need help from a crew should they own a superyacht.

It is a fluid line between a yacht and a superyacht, but the idea behind a superyacht is that it is much more than just a boat with onboard living quarters. Superyachts typically have additional features such as an on-deck pool, dining area, launch boats, and other forms of entertainment.

Why Thailand?

Why have superyacht sales in Thailand increased over the years? The answer is quite simple: Thailand is an excellent jumping-off point for multi-day excursions.

The two main launch points for yachting journeys are Pattaya and Phuket. Each of these seaside locales gives access to the open sea on each side of Thailand. That said, adventurous yachters can travel from one to the other, navigating around the Malay Peninsula and up the other side of Thailand.

From Phuket, Yachters have access to the islands of the Phang Nga bay, such as Koh Yao Noi, Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Lanta. They additionally can travel to Koh Ngai or Koh Lipe further south. To the west, the Similan Islands and the Surin Islands.

From Pattaya, superyachters can travel across the Gulf of Thailand to Hua Hin, or south to Koh Samui and Koh Tao. They can even branch east to Cambodian and Vietnamese islands, should they so desire.

It’s no surprise that Thailand’s superyacht sales have blossomed over the last decade-plus, and that trend is expected to continue to rise.
