Must-Visit Cities in Australia in 2023

Must-Visit Cities in Australia

Are you finally getting serious about your Australian adventure in 2023? If yes, you’ve made an awesome decision because Australia is one of the most exciting places in the world and so friendly and welcoming to travelers. Sydney is probably already on your list of cities to visit, but what about other urban centers in Oz? Here are a few must-visit cities in Australia in 2023, some expected and some entirely unexpected:

Brisbane

Brisbane

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, AKA the Sunshine State, so this city is blessed with almost perpetual sun and high temperatures. Thanks to its great climate, expect the third most populous city in the country to offer many fantastic outdoor activities. When in Brisbane, you’ll get to go kayaking, hiking, biking, and climbing—when in Brisbane, get ready to move all the time! When you tire out from all your adrenaline adventures, take a light walk along the Brisbane River waterfront and relax in one of many bars, beer gardens, restaurants, and music venues. The music scene is booming in Brisbane, so don’t hesitate to stop and listen whenever you hear some pleasant sounds.

Cairns

Cairns

Cairns is a tourist mecca. There’s not much there in the way of sights, but the vibes are immaculate—everyone is relaxed and chilling, making friends and enjoying their vacation. When it comes to natural wonders, Cairns is truly blessed, though. The Great Barrier Reef is vey close, and you can visit it by boat during all times of the day. Cairns can be your base for your Daintree National Park adventure and the Queensland Outback (these are not too far).

Melbourne

Melbourne

As a sharp contrast to Cairns, Melbourne is a city of art, culture, and elegance. The second largest city in Australia is a truly cosmopolitan city with a European vibe. It’s home to citizens coming from all over the world, so it has a unique mixed-culture air around it. Melbourne is speckled with art galleries, museums, and open exhibitions, and you can always come across a musical performance. It might not have all the stunning sights of Sydney, but it’s much more authentic and lively. And when you feel like you need a break from all the city noise, simply visit one of the closeby neighborhoods like Dromana and enjoy some quiet time by the coast. You can even find gorgeous accommodation in Dromana almost on the beach and be close to all the attractions of this little town. And don’t hesitate to splurge on lux suburb accommodation because the prices are much more affordable than in the city.

Hobart

Hobart

If you’re looking for a picturesque city to visit this year, look no further than Hobart. This city is blessed with a busy waterfront, dramatic ocean, and gorgeous mountains providing a perfect backdrop to all your adventures and photos. Hobart is not so easy to reach, because it’s located on Tasmania Island, but thanks to this isolation, the city still has its Victorian architecture preserved. But now, it’s gaining popularity again, and 2023 might be the perfect chance to visit.

Newcastle

Newcastle

Here’s another very chill city with a pretty unique vibe. Newcastle is the second-oldest city in Australia, but the feel is quite modern. This coastal New South Wales city is full of historical architecture, beautiful beaches, and some of the best surf spots in the country. Plus, Newcastle is the perfect place from which you can reach many interesting spots in the area such as the mountains, unique beaches, and especially all the Hunter Valley vineyards and cellars.

Alice Springs

Alice Springs

This one is for all nature lovers. Located in the very heart of Australia, Alice Sprints is relatively isolated—some 1500 km away from the nearest city. Even though the city itself lacks urban attractions (you still have to visit its museums of Aboriginal history and art), it’s got perfect access to Uluru and Kata Tjuta in the great Outback. If you find accommodation in Alice Springs, expect to be close to many of Australia’s incredible landscapes and scenery.

Australia is a huge country (even bigger than you might be able to imagine), but these cities stand out from the crowd, each offering a unique experience to its visitors. Pick out any of them for your next adventure and expect to be mind-blown by all the exciting things you can see and all the friendly people you can meet.
