Learn About Mexico

Mexico is one of the most interesting places to visit on Earth, combining the rich culture, the ancient civilizations and their heritage, the amazing landscapes and the friendly nature of its people.

Traveling in Mexico is truly a most fascinating experience for anyone, but way too often we choose our destinations with our mind and not our heart. There are some truly amazing places to see in this world, but because of fashion most choose to see the same places that everyone goes to. Often overlooked by many travelers, the country of Mexico is not so often viewed as a travel destination, especially given its more famous northern neighbor. But in reality the country boasts Caribbean beaches, rainforests, ancient pyramids, delicious food, vivid and unique festivals, traditional haciendas and much, much more. A visit to Mexico is more than a vacation or holiday, it is a rewarding and unforgettable experience.

Traveling in Mexico

It is hard to choose the most famous or interesting destinations in Mexico, as there are so many and they are so diverse. A good start of course is the impressive capital of Mexico City, a sprawling metropolis caught between the past and the future, one of the fastest developing cities in the world. Over 50 miles wide, the city engulfed smaller towns and villages, becoming one of the three largest cities on Earth. As a tourist destination, it offers a great variety of places to see and things to do, including the Historical Center with its Aztec ruins and the immense Plaza de la Constitucion. The other major area for tourists is definitely the Chapultepec Park, a huge park holding many attractions, including the Chapultepec Castle, a great number of museums, the zoo and others. Other attractions of Mexico City are spread throughout, like the Zona Rosa, Xochimilco, Coyoacan and more.

Apart from the capital, other cities are also well worth visiting, presenting a wealth of historical, cultural, religious and natural attractions. Examples include Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, and Mérida.

Then there are the traditional villages, Aztec and Maya ruins, small historical towns with colonial architecture, and all types of amazing heritage. For example, the magnificent archaeological marvels of Chichén Itzá, the Palenque zone, the Teotihuac pyramids near Mexico City, the Tulum national park, or the El Tajín pyramids and ancient archaeological site near Veracruz.

There are the pristine beaches of the Caribbean, to the vibrant beach cities of Cancun or Acapulco, and the Copper Canyon in the heart of the Tarahumara mountains of Chihuahua (larger than the Grand Canyon of Arizona), or the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve near Zitácuaro.

Other fascinating natural destinations of Mexico include the Cenotes of the Yucatan and the underground river Riviera Nayarit, the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California), and the volcanic peak Pico de Orizaba (second highest in the world) overlooking Orizaba.

Travelers can also find a great variety of activities in Mexico, from hiking and trekking, to whale watching and diving, from golf to horseback riding and beyond.
