Coaching With the Energetic Bodies
By Leanne Whiting
Chakra is a Sanskrit word that can be translated to “wheel.”There are seven primary chakras, and several minor chakras that correspond to various areas in the body that provide a sophisticated understanding of wholeness and integration of the body, mind and spirit. The study of these energetic wheels date back to over 5000 years ago and are inevitably linked with the ancient art and science of yoga, a philosophy and a practice designed to unite the body, mind and spirit as one.
Our body is our vehicle that takes us through our experiences of life. As we move through our joys, trials, tribulations and transformations our chakras are wheel-like energies that are continuously spinning. Chakras that appear to be moving too slowly or too quickly can be used as gateways of transformation.
Each Chakra holds energy and layers of consciousness that provide a formula to help us connect our physical feelings and sensations with emotions and feelings throughout our various experiences in life.
In Coaching for Transformation, chakras can be used to move the client’s awareness into the body to support awareness of what may be holding them back through the shadows of the energy, which tend to move the chakra slower, to the opening of a chakra and awareness of the deeper and transformational energy of what is longing to surface and come alive.
EXAMPLE OF COACHING WITH CHAKRAS
James: I’m completely stressed, overwhelmed and don’t have enough time.
Leanne: What do you want time for?
James: [pause] I want to take time to write music… but I know that time is not the issue.
James: Fear. I’m actually scared.
Leanne: Where do you feel the fear in your body?
James: [pointed to his stomach].
Leanne: That’s your third chakra. The shadow of the third chakra is shame.
James: That’s it… My shame doesn’t allow me to find my drive, motivation or confidence. I need all that to write music. What’s holding me back is the shame.
Leanne: You are doing a lot. Always. But you have been quite passive about what is important to you.
James: I didn’t think I had so much shame. But that’s it. I don’t feel good enough to write music.
Leanne: What do you feel in your body now?
James: Pain in my right shoulder.
Leanne: Take a couple of breaths into your shoulder, which is a wing of your heart, your fourth chakra. What does that pain cover?
James: Acceptance, self-love and balance.
Leanne: The shadow of the fourth chakra is grief. The third and fourth chakra work together. Self-love will override shame. [pause] Now what?
James: Meditation practice—I want to sit with that every day.
Allow the shadow of shame to surface—not to override it, but to let the heart open to it.
Leanne: Anything else?
James: I want to create an affirmation so that when I feel pain in my stomach, I bring my awareness to I am whole, I am worthy, I am loved.
Leanne: Will you let me know how that goes for you?
