It should have been so easy to leave my job and follow my dream.
When I first considered becoming a professional coach, I believed that after I became a coach, I would leave my office life and become a self-employed coach, so that I could do what I love.
As soon as I began my journey with the Coaching for Transformation (CFT) program, I started to feel a change. I was coached on what I want to do in my life—leave the company I worked for or stay. Honing in on this, we did an exercise called Envision the Future, where I saw myself as a mother wearing a long skirt with an apron, holding three children’s hands— feeling so wise and peaceful. I felt so much joy.
My future was clear, so what was stopping me from leaving my job? Was it about money? No, I could earn money being a coach and facilitator. Was it about certainty? No, I didn’t believe that without the company I could not do anything else. I was curious, “What was holding me back?”
Two days later, I was being coached again and this time, I made a deep connection to my need to serve. I realized that it would be so easy for me to leave the company and be with people who understand me. However, if I left, people in the company would never know or experience how wonderful, supportive and loving the coaching journey could be.
My intention for staying with the company was to share the coaching experience with everyone there. I had received so much from my coach training, and my need was to give back by helping the organization create a coaching culture for sustainability. That same night I had a dream, where I saw Martha (a CFT founder) speaking with my company’s president. I took that as a sign.
The next day, it took all of my courage to write an email to my president. I remember how nervous and anxious I felt—actually, it went through my whole body. Nonetheless, I told him how wonderful the coach experience was for me, and how I would love to share with our company. I hit send. He replied “Let’s talk.”Two weeks later, Martha was in Thailand, sitting in the company’s meeting room with our organization’s Development Manager and team to discuss implementing a coaching culture. And just three weeks later, Vikram Bhatt (a CFT faculty member) was in Thailand to meet the team and continue the conversation about the opportunity to spread CFT in the company.
For me, I felt overwhelmed by the power of coaching and how everything had moved forward so rapidly. Now, I am in the transitional process to move from Risk Manager toward Internal Executive Coach and helping the organizational development team to create a coaching culture. I’m fulfilling my dream to be a coach and serving my need to build a coaching culture in my company—with the same love and support that I experienced in my CFT coaching journey.
