5 Steps to Inner Beauty

inner beauty

By Mikkie Mills

While finding your inner beauty really does take some time and true self reflection, it’s not as hard as it seems to find. With these 5 steps you’ll be well on your way and you’ll be set up to find more ways to let your inner beauty shine.

Find Your Definition of Inner Beauty

The first step to inner beauty is discovering what it means to you. Every person’s definition is going to be as unique as they are. This may require some self reflection. What are some qualities that you see in others that you would like to exemplify yourself? What parts of yourself make you feel happiest, and the most you? These qualities could be anything. Maybe it’s your kindness or ability to love. But really you are going to have to find these out for yourself.

Connect to Inspiration and Passion

Maybe something you love about yourself is how passionate you are about something. You can find inspiration in hobbies or other things you love. Maybe you are a teacher at heart. Maybe you are really good at baking and it makes you happy. Whatever it may be these things are part of who you are, and what makes you unique. Find time for, and appreciate your passions.

Acknowledge Yourself

Look inward. Be honest with yourself. It may be hard, but notice your flaws. Then be forgiving of them. Notice all the good things about yourself, focus on making those stronger. Working to strengthen your good qualities will help you find that inner beauty you are looking for. Think of the qualities you defined in the first step. Do you have any of those already? What can you work on?

Love Yourself Anyway

You’ve turned inward and focused on who you are right at this moment and who you want to be. Maybe those things aren’t very close to each other. Maybe you feel you have so many more flaws than good qualities. Love yourself anyway. This doesn’t mean you don’t work to change, it just means that you accept where you are on that journey without judgement. Loving yourself means you don’t compare yourself to others. It means you give yourself permission to be you. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. Just be the best you that you can be.

Be in the now

Being completely present not only helps your inner beauty but can also make you happier. While still thinking of the future and learning from the past, someone who is present will let go of worries caused by them. There are great ways to practice if being present doesn’t come naturally to you. Yoga and meditation both focus on being completely present.

With these practices you can ground yourself in the now. You may even find a spiritual awakening. Another part of awakening is when you stop putting your ideas and concepts onto others. Both of these help your inner beauty to shine brightly.

It’s true, inner beauty isn’t for a select few. As long as you are willing to work on yourself and be honest with yourself, you can find the beauty within you that is waiting to shine. It may take time, it may take work, but anyone can do it. So define inner beauty for yourself. Dive into the things you are passionate about. Acknowledge and love yourself. Be in the now. You’ll find your inner beauty faster than you think.
