Forgiving the Unforgiveable
From the book by Master Charles Cannon
If a traumatic event ripped your life apart, altered it in a way that you never thought possible, what would you do? Grieve, perhaps, try different therapies to process your emotions - and then what? Would you choose to forgive?
In November 2008, Master Charles Cannon, a modern spiritual leader, and 24 of his associates were at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai when terrorists attacked. During the ensuing 45-hour siege, four in their group were wounded and two long time members were killed. Master Charles had the difficult task of identifying their bodies.
When rescued by SWAT teams and interviewed by the international media, the survivors expressed compassion toward the terrorists, offering words of forgiveness, not accusation. This catalyzed a deluge of e-mails and phone calls from people around the world, asking, "How did you get to be the way you are? And how can I learn to be that way too?" Cannon wrote his book, Forgiving the Unforgiveable: The Power of Holistic Living as an answer to those questions.
For those who seek the inner stillness of a lightened spirit, Forgiving the Unforgiveable presents the spiritual practices that made it possible for the author and his colleagues to weather their ordeal with insight, compassion and unconditional love. Written in user-friendly language that readers can easily translate into their own results, Cannon remains a gentle and thoughtful guide throughout, inviting readers to see each moment as "an experience whose time has come" and to learn to express the very qualities that may be missing, such as love in the very face of hatred.
This book is not about the events that occurred in Mumbai. The book is about forgiveness but more essentially, it is about how to live in a certain state of consciousness out of which forgiveness arises naturally and effortlessly. Here are some extracts...
Ramana Maharishi says - "Surrender is to give oneself up to the original cause of one's being. Do not delude yourself by imagining such a source to be some God outside you. One's source is within oneself. Give yourself up to it."
When someone from the West travels to a country like India, the energy of the country can literally blow them away. Why? Because they find a culture and country that values truth over illusion. Of course, a polar shift is occurring in the 21st century. The East is becoming more Western and the West is becoming more Eastern. Those in the East want to become more material, while those in the West want more spiritual experience.
Newtonian science maintains that there is nothing beyond the human body and brain. This is known as upward causation. Its mantra could be Descarte's famous quote, "I think, therefore I am." Modern day quantum physics proposes the opposite, known as downward causation. The mantra for downward causation could be: "I am, therefore I think." Everything arises out of consciousness.
Furthermore, the theory of downward causation proposes that consciousness creates itself newly in each moment. This would mean that you are the creator of your individual and collective experience moment by moment. In other words, in this moment your consciousness is creating this reality, the experience you are having reading these words. And factually there is no separation between creator and creation.
Let's try something right now. Just slow down your reading. Pause ... stop right between words ... Breathe consciously, be aware of your heart beating. Be wakeful of the environment that surrounds you. Still your thoughts. And open a space for this question:
Can you open to the possibility of Source, the Universal Consciousness (God), having a relationship with you? This is very different from the idea of you developing a relationship with some teacher or theoretical God that you created in your own image. This is about you surrendering into relationship with the eternal Source of All, present here and now. When you embrace this reality, you experience Source Consciousness - not as a distant, separate concept but as the true nature of reality, which includes you, is you, in this present moment.
Can you open to this possibility? Is this an experience whose time has come for you? If so, this is the moment of your awakening. And know this: as your progressive evolution unfolds, you will continue drawing to yourself many forms of teaching, each at the perfect time to support your next step in the journey of self discovery.
Open to the possibility of Source, Consciousness, God having a relationship with you, right here and now, and you will instantly see all things newly. You will read with new eyes as this frequency entrains you to experience yourself as you really are.
