Desire and Expectation
The Law of Attraction has been well publicized lately, with the release of the movie, "The Secret," and other authors and speakers discussing its merits and workings on radio, talk shows, in books, etc.
The Law of Attraction is really part of a bigger LAW -- the Universal LAW -- the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Mind that Ernest Holmes discusses.
How is the Law of Attraction part of the Law of Cause and Effect? The Law of Attraction is set in motion when you create a Cause that will attract to you what you desire (the Effect). No pulling, no coercion. An effortless, compelled attraction.
To use the Law of Attraction and the Law of Cause and Effect to your highest good, you need to incorporate two things: Desire and Expectation. Without both, you either attract what you don't want or you never get what you do want.
Attracting what you want is a two-fold undertaking. Just as the Creative Process involves both thoughts and beliefs, the conscious and the subconscious, the objective and the subjective, male and female, it requires both desire and expectation. Without both, the Law of Attraction cannot work.
We want to use the Law of Attraction to bring things that we desire into our lives because it embodies the Universal Truths of Harmony, Goodness, Spiritual Power and Ease. The Law of Attraction is known as "like attracts like." If like attracts like, then we see that there is an underlying principle of Harmony. The definition of Harmony is: "accord, agreement, a pleasing arrangement". We cannot attract to us anything that is not in accord with us. We cannot attract to us what belongs to another. We will not be taking away from anyone or anything when we use the Law of Attraction. Harmony is served when we let the Law of Attraction do its work.
The same can be said of its Spiritual Power and Ease. We are not using human will power or force or coercion when we use the Law of Attraction. When we let the Law do the work, all of the power of Spirit is behind it. There is an ease in our use of it. We are not fatigued because no force or will power is used. We set the Cause in motion and the Law brings about its Effect.
So let us set the Law of Attraction in motion by the proper use of desire and expectation in our own minds. The very word DESIRE is spiritual as it can be broken down into de-sire -- of (de) the father (sire). Of the Father. Of Spirit. This is the masculine principle, the conscious, the thought part of the Creative Process. There must be a desire to set the Law of Attraction in motion. Desire is telling the Universe what you want. It is the "Selection" of Thomas Troward's writings; it is the "Volition" of Ernest Holmes. Nothing can begin without a first Cause, a mind thinking a thought.
When put on the spot, many people cannot state their desires succinctly and powerfully. They may have some vague notions of what would be nice or what they sort of day-dream about. The Law is definite and exact. We must be definite and exact in our workings with it. We must be definite and exact in our stating of our desires.
And then we must EXPECT. Without expectation, the Creative Process cannot be fulfilled. Desire without expectation is just wishing and hoping and dreaming. Expectation is the believing, the feminine, the subjective. (What do we call pregnant women? -- Expecting!!) Expecting is the drawing power. It is the power that does the attracting. If we do not expect, the Law cannot do its work.
Since everything already exists in Mind, your desire connects you with that thing you desire, and expectation bring that thing to you. Never desire a thing you don't expect to get and never expect anything you don't want. The first is a waste of mental energy and the second can be disastrous.
Let the Law of Attraction work for your highest good. Be definite in your desires and steadfast in your expectation. That is the winning combination.
