How to Write a Profile of a Leader

By Mark Delarika

Profiles serve to present a leader’s accomplishments or something else of high interest. For example, a profile of a reader will speak of something extraordinary, such as an award or retirement after long years of successful work. Moreover, a profile is a way to organize information and even get a desired job. But before all of this, a profile means knowing and sharing details about the leader in question, in a way that aims to affect those who read the writing.

When you are given the task to write a profile on a reader, you are also given the responsibility to measure his effectiveness and explore their life and successes. For this, you need to complete the following steps:

Step 1: Select a Reader

If you haven’t been given a specific leader for whom you need to write a profile, your first goal is to select one of interest. Brainstorm ideas and pick a leader with real accomplishments and an interesting story.

Step 2: Narrow Your Focus

What is the reason for you writing this profile? Is it to emphasis the experience of the leader, speak of how he accomplished his goals, or what his accomplishments did for the benefit of a specific organization or company. Narrow down your focus to one specific goal of your own.

Step 3: Start Your Research

Your focus should guide you through the research part. Once you have a leader in mind, read everything you can find about them. Note down the background you will actually need to do the profile. Nothing more, nothing less.

Remember, a profile on a leader should contain a minimum amount of personal background information. Focus on the professional accomplishments when doing your research.

Step 4: Create an Outline

Create an outline that lists all the patterns you found in research. A good outline connects pieces of information that fit together, and will help you a lot when the time for the actual writing comes.

Step 5: Use the Outline to Write the Profile

You have all the information at your disposal, organized into a nicely written outline. It is now time to use this outline to write the first, rough draft of the profile.

Start with an introduction that contains the thesis statement and explains to the reader what the profile is all about. Since you are writing a profile on a leader, it is essential to provide an opening paragraph that introduces this person to the reader. The body of the paper will contain the remaining information in detail, while the concluding paragraph serves to reiterate your thesis statement.

Step 6: Include Credentials

This part excludes the certifications and education history of the leader. In the case that some kind of specialized training can serve to make the profile more effective, include it in writing. But, focus on experience as one key element of your profile writing, and explain how the experiences led the leader to his present situation.

Does the leader have any specific areas of expertise, or does something of great value? If your leader is a volunteer in a charity, nonprofit organization, this is surely worth mentioning in his profile.

Step 7: Speak to Others and Include Quotes

The thing that makes your profile different from those of others is the information you don’t find online. Everyone can find the biography or resume of an established reader. Strive to find out as much as you can for the reader you are researching, and use this to enrich your writing.

Speak to people who work or worked with the leader and find out who he really is. Is the leader a good boss or an employee, and how do other see him? To make your presentation even stronger and back up the writing, integrate some quotes into the profile.

Step 8: Proofread, Edit and Format

Read over your draft and double-check the quotes to make sure everything is cited properly. Format the writing to suit a professional leader profile (use a lot of white space around your writing and a basic business style). Make sure to provide the name of your organization and your name, as well as a contact method for further clarification.

Are there any areas that could use some structural improvement? Use the time you have before you have to deliver the profile to move content around, remove things that do not belong, and add things you missed. Check the spelling, punctuation and capitalization and correct everything. Or you can just ask for help at best paper writing service to make everything perfect for sure.

And finally, ask someone to do the same thing for you. When you read it to yourself, you can easily miss an error you made.

Step 9: Find Where to Share the Profile

If there isn’t a specific place where you have to share your profile, like a speech in front of others or an e-mail of a client who requested it, the final step is to find a venue to do this. Be creative. Use social media, e-mails and platforms for leaders.

Every business needs a terrific leader, whether it is a small business or a big one. Researching one and presenting his accomplishments and traits to others is a serious task that should not be taken lightly. Use these steps to do it right.
