What Is An LED Light Strip?
An LED light strip consists of many LEDs on one narrow, flexible circuit board. It is in a roll and sometimes has its plastic casing for storage. You can find these strips in industrial, commercial, or residential buildings. The great advantage of these lights is their easy installation.
Many brands have them available for purchase, such as the LED light strip by TP-Link. The standard voltage of these strips starts at 12 volts. Some strips may require a transformer, so the electricity distributes throughout the lights. A battery will do the trick if you do not have a transformer.
The LED light strip has varying colors. These come in RGB or single-color variants. It is also possible to find an ultraviolet version of the LED light strip for a black light. You should know the CCT, which stands for Correlated Color Temperature.
The temperature measures in Kelvin and affects the emitting light. For example, warm white refers to 3000K. You can increase the temperature, changing the color from yellow to bluish-white. These are warm white, daylight, or cool white. If the white color is not to your liking, you can get the RGB variant to get the mood you want.
Length of Light Strip
The standard length of an LED light strip starts at 5 meters or more in length with a width of 10-12 mm. Per meter, there are 18-36 LEDs ready for lighting. Behind the LED strip is an adhesive. You can remove the peel of the adhesive and mount the strip to the desired location. Because the circuit board is flexible, you can place them on flat, curved, or uneven surfaces. Ensure that you have a plan first before you install the LED strip.
To determine the brightness, measure them in Lumens. LED bulbs have different efficiency levels, and the wattage is not a good indicator of brightness. For example, a good quality LED light strip must have 1500 lumens per meter. It determines by three factors:
- Light output and efficiency per LED emitter
- Number of LEDs per meter
- Power draw of the LED strip per meter.
If you see an LED light strip without a brightness specification, do not get those. Those products are subject to faulty wiring, which results in a short circuit.
