What Does a Delta 8 THC High Feel Like?

With a number of Delta 8 products flooding the market and each one claiming to have several benefits, it is important to know this compound in and out. Unlike cannabidiol (CBD), another popular cannabinoid, Delta 8 is a psychotropic compound. When The Farm Bill, 2018 made all hemp-derivatives containing <0.3% THC legal, the sales of both CBD and Delta 8 compounds increased. However, the two compounds are very different in nature, in fact, Delta 8 is more similar to THC. So, let’s see what’s different in the high created by these two THCs, and what should you expect from Delta 8.

Delta-8 THC v/s Delta-9 THC

THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol which is one of the most commonly known cannabinoids. It is responsible for creating the characteristic euphoria that weed is widely known for. But when people talk about THC, generally they’re talking about Delta-9 THC. It is a highly psychoactive compound and readily binds with the cannabinoid receptors present in our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). Some typical effects created by THC are- intense euphoric feelings, hallucination, pain relief, lowers anxiety, improves appetite, helps with certain medical conditions like epileptic seizures, OCD, PTSD, depression, etc. Therefore, Delta-9 THC has traditionally been used as a medicine for a long time.

Delta-8 THC, on the other hand, induces a relatively milder high. Although it is still an under-researched drug, it is known to have antiemetic (nausea-reducing), pain-relieving, and appetite-increasing properties. Additionally, there is also some evidence that Delta 8 may reduce tumor growth and lower anxiety. But it is considerably less potent and is required to be almost double the amount of Delta 9 to have the same effect. This is because of their slightly different molecular structures. Delta 8, being an isomer of Delta 9 THC, has the same number of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms but the placement of carbon-carbon double bond varies in these cannabinoids. Delta 8 has the double bond in its 8th carbon while Delta 9 has it in its 9th carbon.

How much Delta 8 should I take?

To get the desired result, one has to consume the required dose of Delta 8. But there is no single dose that will have the same effect on everyone. A few factors will determine your dosage-

  • Bodyweight
  • Tolerance level
  • Metabolism rate
  • The reason for taking Delta 8

People weighing more will need a larger amount of this drug to take effect. Similarly, those with a higher metabolic rate will also require a higher dose. If you are a regular consumer of Delta 9 THC, you will be highly tolerant to Delta 8 and thus, require a higher dose. For an idea, if 1 mg of THC helps you sleep well at night, you’ll need 2-3 mg of Delta 8 to get the same effect. But if you are taking Delta 8 for the first time, you should start with a lower dose. Delta 8 gummies 1000 mg are an excellent choice for beginner’s because it delivers the drug while also leaving a sweet taste in your mouth.

Characteristics of Delta 8 high

As noted earlier, it creates a mild, clean high that often makes one feel relaxed. Some people claim to be able to think clearly while under its effect. Others say they feel as light as a floating cloud when they consume Delta 8 and that it makes them mellow. So, different people have slightly different experiences with it, however, they generally considered the high to be quite pleasant and not hard-hitting like Delta 9’s. But even it’s important to note that despite the benefits of Delta 8, it can cause you to fail a drug test. We advise you to stop taking Delta 8 products 8-10 days before the test is due.

Factors affecting your experience of Delta 8 high

How you will feel after taking Delta 8 entirely depends on your body stats (as already mentioned above) and the type of product you’ve taken. Edibles like gummies, chocolates, and lozenges take longer to show effect. Wait for about half an hour to see if they’re working. But vapes and tinctures are considerably faster, the former takes just 5-7 minutes to take effect and the latter may take about 15 minutes to work. So, choose your product according to your need, if you need rapid action, go for Delta 8 pen. They are disposable but rechargeable. Just inhale the vapors once or twice and wait for a while to see the effects before you inhale more. Remember, the high created by edibles tend to last the longest, vapes fade away quicker. You may also use Delta 8 cartridges that contain Delta 8 distillate in small amounts, you’ll need a cartridge vaporizer battery or rig to smoke it.

Lastly, the high may last for as little as a couple of hours and as high as 7-8 hours, depending on the factors already mentioned. So, do not take a second dose or increase the dose for at least 24 hours after taking the 1st dose.

Side effects

You should not consume Delta 8 in excessive amounts because it may cause certain adverse effects. Dry mouth, reddening of eyes, insomnia, hallucinations, blood pressure fluctuations, and drowsiness are some common side effects. Take care to not consume alcohol or nicotine with Delta 8 to avoid these symptoms.

Conclusion

Every person will experience the effects of Delta 8 differently because the drug works according to one’s system. However, in general, it induces a pleasant, uplifting, clear-headed, mellow, and relaxing high. Taking Delta 8 THC in the required dose will give you all its benefits and shield you from its negative effects. So, go ahead and get yourself a Delta 8 product of your choice and see if it works for you!
