Vaping vs Smoking: How Much Nicotine Is In a Cigarette?

smoking

It's no secret that smoking has been linked to a myriad of health issues, especially when it comes to nicotine consumption, but just how much nicotine is there in a cigarette? And what about vaping? Many are beginning to look at this alternative as the "healthier option," but is it really all that much better?

Vaping vs Smoking: What’s the Difference?

vaping

At a glance, one may look to vaping as an alternative to smoking – after all, many products marketed to vapers are flavored and don’t contain the combustants that cigarettes do.

Well, this isn't necessarily the case — many vapers still use nicotine, and while it may not be in the same carcinogen-filled form as cigarettes, inhaling it into your lungs is still potentially hazardous to your long-term health.

Vaping is the process of inhaling and exhaling an aerosol produced by a vaping device, commonly referred to as an e-cigarette. The e-cigarette usually consists of a rechargeable battery, a mouthpiece, an atomizer (a heating element that vaporizes the liquid or oil), and a cartridge (a container that holds the liquid or oil).

It typically involves heating up a liquid, typically containing nicotine, propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), and other food-grade flavors until it produces a vapor that is then inhaled.

Smoking cigarettes on the other hand, involves burning dried tobacco leaves, which produce smoke (containing over 7000 chemicals).

The biggest difference between vaping and smoking is the way nicotine is delivered. E-cigarettes deliver nicotine in a vapor form, while cigarettes deliver nicotine through smoke.

How Much Nicotine Is In a Cigarette?

In cigarettes, nicotine concentrations are typically between 7 and 20 milligrams per cigarette. This means that for the average pack of 20 cigarettes, nicotine content ranges from 140 and 400 milligrams.

But what you should know is that when someone smokes a cigarette, all of the nicotine is not absorbed, some is exhaled. According to the National Library of Medicine, it is estimated that between 1 to 1.5 milligrams of nicotine are absorbed per cigarette.

On the other hand, nicotine levels in e-cigarettes vary depending on the device and type of liquid used.A typical cartridge contains between 0.3 to 19 mg of nicotine, and it is estimated that between 0.5 and 15.4 mg are absorbed per 300 puffs.

But whether you smoke cigarettes or vape, nicotine is still highly addictive and has a lot of side effects that can have adverse effects on your health. Research has shown that nicotine increases heart rate and metabolism, stimulation of the central nervous system, constrictions of blood vessels, and hardening of the arterial walls.

So the question is what is the solution?

The best way is to totally clear Nicotine from your system, and this can be achieved by detoxifying your system. To detoxify means to rid your body of toxins, and it can be done in many ways.

For example, you could go on a clean diet and exercise regimen, or take supplements designed to help your body detoxify itself. But to guarantee that you have minimal or no amounts of nicotine in your system using a professional detoxification kit is the best solution.

Conclusion

Vaping and smoking are two different things when it comes to nicotine levels. Vaping may be a somewhat healthier alternative since it does not involve inhaling thousands of toxic chemicals that are found in cigarettes but it is not the solution.

If you want to be sure that you have completely cleared nicotine from your system, then a comprehensive detoxification kit is the way to go.
