Is Vaping the Best Way to Quit Smoking?
By Margaret Wilson
Smoking carries considerable risk for health, and we all know it well. Another thing is that the process of quitting can be incredibly difficult. That is why so many studies have been devoted to methods that make the process minimally traumatic for the psyche.
Nicotine replacement therapy (in simple terms, a nicotine patch or nicotine gum) is often an individual choice.
A lot of people don't like the taste of nicotine chewing gum, but it helps to use the jaw, thus expelling the desire to take a cigarette in your mouth.
Setting the "deadline"
In some cases, setting “deadline” - the endpoint or the day when a person quits smoking - works well. This allows you to decrease the number of cigarettes smoked per day, discuss possible problems and their solution with those who managed to quit and not to go back to harmful addiction. Such a process is like passing an exam when you think through not only a strategy of behavior but also actions that will help you return to the goal in case of failure.
Having a diary
Next one helper in smoking cessation is the diary. As with other restrictive action on the body, quitting nicotine (sugar or caffeine) is serious stress. To reduce discomfort and prevent failure, in the first phase it will be useful to note how many times a day you smoke and how many cigarettes you smoke in general.
It's great if you have a friend who quit smoking. Then ask any questions you may have or ask for support (you will need it) at any time. On the other hand, the connection to the group of virtual friends is no less successful. Meanwhile, they will gladly give advice and discuss with you options for deviating from the original plan.
Vapes help throw ordinary cigarettes, but it's not so simple. A new study showed that to quit tobacco with the help of modern vapor cigarettes from vaperevs.com, it is necessary to use it more often. All vapers are united by the fact that they stopped smoking tobacco products or try to do it. According to statistics, at least one-third of vapers are former smokers who quit smoking tobacco.
The important point is that a recent study by an international team of scientists from 28 European countries, determined that more than 6 million people quit smoking thanks to vaping, and another 9 million are going to do it or at least plan to smoke less. The number of vapers is increasing every year - especially among young people.
Scientists have collected information about 24,000 people who participated in a population-based study on tobacco use. The researchers chose a short amount of time because it was the period when electronic cigarettes became more popular.
It turned out that people who used vape pen for 20 days a month or more were three times more often bear these three months. For comparison: of those who took vape 5–20 days a year, only 60% could live without ordinary cigarettes for three months. A third of those who smoked vape every day abandoned regular cigarettes altogether. Of those who floated rarely, only 6% achieved this result. Scientists worried that smokers like e-cigarettes too much.
Other types of nicotine use aren't so popular, because it's not interesting. Chewing gum has no taste, in contrast with vape juice, which has a lot of different flavors. Nasal spray burns, patches irritate the skin. And none of these methods are psychologically satisfactory, because they do not allow to hold something in their hands and take a drag. It is easy to get into the way to smoke electronic cigarettes, they are easy to use, and they are also interesting.
The longer smokers were replacing traditional cigarettes for e cig; the higher were their chances of forgetting about tobacco in general. Every day the opportunity to quit grew by 10%. As a result, regular usage of vapes helps to quit traditional smoking. Vapes help, if a person is going to give up smoking in general. If not, then we must bear in mind that steam also contains hazardous substances and even heavy metals.
Scientists still explore vapes, their effects on the body have not been thoroughly studied. Such consequences of using electronic cigarettes, which we still do not suspect, may open up. By the way, if a person has never smoked and took up the vape, then he can get addicted.
As fans of this unique hobby say, vaping is much safer than smoking tobacco. As stated by doctors from the Department of Health of England, "e-cigarettes are about 95% less harmful than regular ones." British doctors even suggested that electronic cigarettes would one day be licensed as an alternative to nicotine patches, chewing gums and other means to help stop smoking. However, scientists have not yet provided any official evidence of the safety of electronic cigarettes - it is too short for the period for using these devices.
Numerous studies of e-cigarette fluids, which with the increase in the number of vaping fans began to be conducted more and more often, show that this habit is not nearly as harmless to health as many people think. A recent study by scientists at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute showed that many juices release steam that is potentially dangerous to health. The most dangerous of all liquids that scientists have studied turned out to be aromatized with tobacco and strawberries. Also, as scientists found out, the lifetime of the device and the battery voltage affect the vapor toxicity. The longer the vaper uses the device, and the more powerful the battery is, the higher the risk of serious problems - from various inflammations to cancer.
At the moment, the best way to stop smoking is to replace the method of delivering nicotine to the body, and also to change the conditioned reflex that makes you reach for a cigarette with the help of cognitive-behavioral therapy. Together, the physiological and psychological path help to overcome addiction.
