10 Supplements You Should Be Taking

If you can't find the time or the motivation to shop for, prepare, and cook all the healthy foods you should be eating for your daily dose of nutrients, here are 10 supplements you should be taking. And even if you do eat very healthily, extra nutrients don’t hurt. Please consult with your doctor before beginning a vitamin regimen to prevent any possible health complications.

Biotin is a water-soluble B-vitamin also known as vitamin H or vitamin B7. It is a vitamin that can be found in foods such as eggs, nuts, oatmeal, bananas, mushrooms, and whole grains. Biotin is a very popular vitamin supplement for growing healthy hair and nails and maintaining healthy skin. Biotin is actually very beneficial at metabolizing fats, proteins, and carbohydrates as well.

Fish Oil
Fish oil has been a staple of vitamin supplements for decades. Fish oil is usually contained within gel capsules filled with oil derived from oily fish such as salmon, herring, and sardines. Oil from these fish is rich in a fatty acid called omega-3. Omega-3 contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) which are essential nutrients in preventing and managing heart disease.

Vitamin D
We absorb Vitamin D through our skin from sunlight. But some of you may not be able to have ample exposure to sunlight during the day or maybe you live in a part of the world where sunlight is scarce. A Vitamin D supplement would be greatly beneficial for you. Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency may include aching bones, feeling depressed or unmotivated, and are having gut trouble.

Wheatgrass is a nutrient-rich powerhouse that is a green powder often mixed with a sweet juice to hide the bitter flavor and coarse texture of the powder. It provides nutrients such as potassium, dietary fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, pantothenic acid, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium.

Probiotic supplements are the latest nutritional supplement trend. Probiotics are live yeasts and bacteria that are especially beneficial for your digestive health. They are bacterias that are very similar to ones already in your body which aid in proper digestion within your gut. Refrigerate your bottle of probiotics after opening.

One doesn't usually think of cinnamon as being a vitamin let along a nutrient that is beneficial to your health. Surprisingly, cinnamon's most important benefit is found in its ability to lower blood sugar. It also is rich in antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties, and can reduce your risk of heart disease.

Fiber is one of those nutrients that we don't consider very often when choosing foods. Psyllium is a fiber supplement that can help with constipation, lower blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol levels, and even help with weight loss by making your appetite feel satiated.

Turmeric is a spice usually associated with Indian cuisine, but there is a component of turmeric called curcumin that has a rich range of health benefits such as being an anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiviral, and antiarthritic agent. Feel free to sprinkle this nutritional supplement on all of your food.

Iron is very crucial in the creation of red blood cells and the transportation of oxygen through the body. Iron supplements, sometimes called ferrous sulfate, are beneficial for returning your blood iron levels to normal. Be sure to take the pills with Vitamin C for maximum absorption.

Potassium is another overlooked essential nutrient. It is the third most abundant mineral in the body and it can offer relief from a stroke, aid in regulating blood pressure, anxiety and stress, can enhance muscle strength, metabolism, water balance, electrolytic functions, and nervous system.
