Do you want to feel better physically in 2019? Maybe you have some small goals you’d like to achieve. Or, perhaps you want to make some big changes to give yourself a fresh outlook on life. Either way, there are some simple things you can do to prepare for a new you in 2019. Look at four easy ideas to start with to begin improving your physical health in preparation for a fresh year.
Start Exercising for Twenty Minutes, Five Times a Week
To start with, you can make a promise to yourself to exercise for 20 minutes a day, five times per week. One of the best things about this idea is you can exercise in any way you choose. You can walk through your neighborhood, swim at the local recreation center pool or play racquetball with a friend. As long as you are moving around in a vigorous way for 20 minutes, you can go with the exercise that suits your preferences. You may even want to try a different exercise each week to see what you like and, most importantly, what keeps you interested. This consistent exercise is going to contribute to better physical health. If you find it easier to exercise with another person, ask a friend to help you in this exciting journey toward physical health. Maybe you have a friend who’d like to make some changes, too.
Plan to Make Four Positive Changes in Your Eating Habits
In preparation for 2019, write down four positive changes you’re going to make in your eating habits. Since there are four changes, you can make a different one every three months. This will take you through the end of the year. One positive change is to increase your water intake from five glasses a day to seven. Or, make a plan to eat dessert just once per week instead of two or three times. If you want to make a bigger change in your eating habits, think about trying a vegan lifestyle. It’s important to study up on what foods to eat so you maintain a balanced diet while eating vegan. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be so excited about the change you’ll end up going vegan traveling to expand your horizons and your menu!
Sign Up for Three Fun Exercise Classes Beginning in the New Year
Why not check into some fun exercise classes for the new year? You don’t have to sign up for all three at once. You can look into a yoga or Pilates class for January, then checkout a step class that starts in the springtime. Summer is a great time to start a water aerobics class. Trying exercise classes not only helps you to feel better physically, it gives you the opportunity to make friends and gain more confidence in your appearance.
Start a Healthy Progress Journal
Whether it’s in a leather-bound notebook or on a spreadsheet in a computer program, keeping a healthy progress journal is a simple, yet effective way to record your successes. You can write about how you’ve increased your walking or jogging time to 35 minutes from 20. Perhaps you’ll write about the journey to becoming a vegan or a vegetarian and the successes you’ve enjoyed there. The most helpful thing about a healthy progress journal is if you ever feel discouraged in your pursuit of better health, you can look at your recorded successes in an effort to find encouragement.
Lastly, these are four ideas you can work on before 2019 even arrives. You'll feel better getting a head start on others who are planning to start their improved health regimen in January. You can build up momentum as you move toward your health goals even before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.
