5 Ways to Find Peace

By Indy Summers

Do you know the way to inner peace? Life would certainly be easier if there was an actual location, a place to unplug from the world. The way you react to conflict, obstacles and disappointments; will be completely different when you are at peace within yourself. You have achieved inner peace, when you have an unshakeable aura of calm, despite what may be going on around you. These 5 tips for achieving inner peace are easier than you think and anyone can do them.

1. Live for Today

Yesterday, last month and last year all have something in common; it has already happened. Nothing you do, say or think can change that. So many people waste precious time today reliving their mistakes and shortcomings; or fretting about what may or may not happen in the future. When you spend time reflecting on mistakes of days long gone, you are not enjoying the present. Focus on today and focus on tomorrow when it comes. You will alleviate a lot of mental pressure and unnecessary stress, if you live for today. Eckhart Tolle, a world renown psychotherapist links anxiety, feelings of condemnation and fear to people who do live in the present. Do yourself a favor, live for today.

2. There Is Only 1 You

Recognize that everything about you is unique, from your reasoning process, to your onion juice for hair regime, to your fingerprint. There is only 1 you in the world. Trying to fit into someone else’s mold will be frustrating, because when you become a people pleaser, there is always someone who is unsatisfied. Accept yourself and accept the fact that you cannot change anyone else. You only have the power to change you.

3. Don’t Get Stuck

If you want to have peace within, you have to let go of any ill will or hostility, towards others and yourself. Hostility will block your ability to achieve inner peace. You may think that whomever harmed you does not deserve your forgiveness. They are going on with their lives, enjoying themselves and you are somewhere stewing and reliving the offense. Stop! Make the decision to free yourself. You will never be at peace if there is unforgiveness within.

4. Meditation Works

Whenever mediation is mentioned people often think of strange music and tons of candles. However, people often overlook the health benefits of the ancient practice of meditation. Meditation is calming and a way to gather your thoughts. You do not have to chant, or light eons of candles, unless you want to. To mediate all you need is a quiet space. A space where you can close your eyes and reflect on your emotions and clear your mind. A study conducted by the Massachusetts General hospital proved that meditation helps alleviate anxiety. During the study 93 people with significant anxiety orders where assigned to meditation groups for 8 weeks. At the end of the 8 week period there was a significant reduction in anxiety.

5. Writing Helps

Writing is extremely therapeutic. Situations arise that we do not want to share with anyone. Write about it instead. Getting all your emotions out on paper will help you know yourself better. Writing down your feelings is an excellent way to vent and strengthen your immune system according to experts. When you know your emotions better, you handle your emotions better.

Following these tips will help you become a better version of yourself. Practicing meditation, writing down your feelings, loving yourself, letting go of the past and living in the moment; and forgiveness are the keys to achieving inner peace. Inner peace is possible.
