How to Stop Smoking Without Medications

If you have failed to quit smoking in the past, you can take comfort in knowing that most people fail several times before they can quit successfully. Failing in the past does not show that you are unable to quit. You should view your failures as lessons that will help you on your journey to becoming a nonsmoker.

Today, we are going to share with you ways in which you can stop smoking without having to use medication to do it. Wanting to quit, being determined to quit, is the first step in completing this journey.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine replacement therapy is a technique that is used to help you slowly stop smoking. You use products such as patches, gum, or lozenges to help your body slowly depend less on your addiction.

They are designed to help you overcome intense cravings. These are short-acting therapies that are safe to use in combination with long-acting therapies such as NA or hypnosis.

A Cochrane Review study done in 1996 and updated in November 2007, found that nicotine replacement therapies like the patch, gum, or inhaler increased chances of quitting by 50% to 70%.

Nicotine Anonymous

If the idea of surrounding yourself with people who are like-minded appeals to you, then Nicotine Anonymous meetings might be the solution for you. It is a 12 step program that is based on AA. These meetings are free as it is a non-profit organization.

You can find a meeting near you by going onto the Nicotine Anonymous website. Their site clearly states, “Nicotine Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women helping each other to live our lives free of nicotine. We share our experience, strength, and hope with each other so that we may be free from this powerful addiction. There are no fees. Our primary purpose is to offer support to those who are trying to gain freedom from nicotine.”

Hypnotherapy Apps

Hypnosis is a well-established practice in medicine that has shown to be an effective solution to help people quit smoking. A lot of people turn to nicotine replacement therapy first to try to help the cravings stop. Nowadays, hypnotherapy is becoming more popular as a means to help reduce cravings, control desires, and eventually, help you quit smoking.

Going to a trained professional can be expensive for some. We have found a great hypnosis app to quit smoking. There is a licensed therapist who will take you through your hypnosis journey and help you quit smoking. You will also see how much money you have saved since you stopped smoking which is a great incentive that the app provides you with.

Get Physical

Physical activities are not only good for your body physically but they can also help distract you from your tobacco cravings as well as reduce their intensity.

Any form of physical activity when you are craving a smoke can help. Run up and down the stairs at home or move around the office a little bit. Some people find that diving into a new hobby also helps reduce intense cravings.

Try To Remember

Quitting smoking will take some time. If at first, you don't succeed, try again until you do. This is a lifelong battle that you will go through but each day will be easier than the next.

Try your best to avoid prescription medication because you do not want to give up one addiction and take on another. Mind over matter, if you tell yourself that you want to quit, you will be able to quit. Have faith, you can do this!
