6 Self Care Tips to Boost Your Happiness

Looking after our health and well-being on a daily basis means more than simply watching what we eat, getting enough exercise, and staying hydrated. It is too easy to neglect self care and time for our mental health when we are overwhelmed with work, deadlines, and obligations. So, here are 6 tips for better self care to help you get back on track.

1) Give yourself a better morning regimen.

A lot of people talk about the need for a good morning routine for sleep hygiene or a better diet. This is all true, but there are also self care benefits in creating an enjoyable hour of me-time. This can involve slowly making a tasty breakfast and enjoying the smell of the coffee machine. You can find some skincare products you enjoy for some early-morning positivity. It is all about doing things that bring peace and joy before it is time to check the emails and get to work.

2) Take some time away outside in nature.

One of the best ways that we can destress and take better care of ourselves is to spend time in nature. Just the physical act of removing yourself from a problematic environment and getting active is a good start. But, there is so much joy to gain from a mindful nature walk. You could focus on enjoying the flowers, watching the birds, kicking through the leaves in fall, and splashing in the puddles in winter.

3) Take some breaks to unleash your creative side.

It is always a good idea to use a different part of your brain when you hit a roadblock in your working day. Walking away to do a creative task lets you enjoy something rewarding and expressive. You don't have to be an accomplished artist or crafter. Although, you could find that your skills improve over time. You could paint, draw, sew, doodle, or anything else - it doesn't matter what. Lots of people also find it beneficial to get out some colored pencils and a grown-up coloring book. After this break, you should feel better and can tackle your work afresh.

4) A long soak in the bath does wonders.

While some people prefer to wash the day away in the shower, a bath offers a more relaxing experience. You can soak for as long as you like in the hot water and maybe even read a chapter of a book or paint your nails. You can also enhance the sensory experience with aromatherapy candles and colorful fizzing bath bomb set. Play around with colors and scents to see what works best for you. A combination of relaxing lavender and soothing bath salts could be a big help for better self care.

5) Get into the habit of journaling.

There are different ways to keep a journal, and you should never feel that you aren't capable. Some people go all out with descriptive prose and images of their days, but you can also go more low-key. A great way to start is with a simple gratitude journal. All you need to do is write down the things that happen that offer small joys and gifts. These soon add up and make us feel better about the day. Or, you could write down all your small wins to feel better at the end of a trying day. Whichever approach you take, give yourself some time to browse a brick-and-mortar stationery shop to find a book that you will enjoy using.

6) Give yourself a better night time regimen.

Finally, there is the importance of the little things that we do before we go to sleep for self care. Journaling can fit into this time, but there is more that we can do to let ourselves escape the day and unwind. The first step is to turn off notifications on your mobile devices. Instead, you can listen to some relaxing music, watch some ASMR, get back into that coloring book, read a chapter, or something else.

You can also take the time to continue with the rewarding skincare established in your morning regime. It also helps to find a relaxing herbal or "sleepy time" tea. By giving yourself this hour or so to decompress and get away from the day that has just happened, you are more likely to sleep soundly and feel better going into a brand new day.
