5 Ways to Promote Peace from Within

By Jade C. Pulman

There are so many disruptions to personal peace. Political discord, information overload and personal tragedies can cause a person to feel like there's no hope. It takes a strong and determined person to promote peace from an internal perspective. Whether you see yourself as strong or not, you have the power to live a peaceful life. Amidst all of the chaos in the world, there are strategic ways to develop a peaceful mindset. Consider the following ways you can cultivate and promote peace from within...

  1. Exercise.
When you're able to exercise on a daily basis, you're able to release any pent-up stress and negative emotions you might've carried throughout the day. Whether you'd like to start the day with a workout or go for a jog after work, find an exercise that you can look forward to. As you commit to it, you'll be able to see the benefits of consistent exercise. Some of these benefits include weight management, a stronger heart and an amazing endorphin rush. You don't have to invest a lot of money to make exercise a part of your routine. Go jogging in the neighborhood. Turn on a cardio dance video. Check out different workouts online that you can try at home. The options are endless.
  2. Develop morning and evening routines.
So much happens on any given day. Knowing this, it's wise to develop a morning and evening routine to give yourself some sort of control. The body and mind thrive on routine. Try to wake up and go to bed at the same time every day. Avoid electronics for the first hour. Use an essential oil diffuser with essential oils that promote relaxation. Cultivate a ritual or routine that promotes peace and tranquility.
  3. Consume positive messages.
If you're constantly receiving news updates on your phone, it might be time to shut them off. Each time you get messages from any source, you have to actively process them. This can be really stressful on the brain. This is especially true if you're constantly processing bad news reports. Instead, be intentional about reading inspirational books, positive affirmations and uplifting words. What you focus on will expand. If you focus on content that's positive and inspirational, this will help you develop a significant level of peace and positivity from an internal perspective.
  4. Cultivate a healthy diet.
Never underestimate the power of food to change your life. If you're constantly eating foods that are filled with sodium, fat and sugar, this will directly impact your brain's ability to function and process information clearly. Instead, shift your diet to include more nutrient-rich foods. Try your best to include fresh fruits and vegetables at every meal. Fiber is especially important for the body. It's also a great idea to increase your intake of supplements. Check out the benefits of chlorella, where it's found in your vegetables and how you can supplement your diet with it.
  5. See a therapist.
Within the popular culture, therapy and mental health awareness continue to trend. Hopefully, the trend is the start of a shift in the culture. Too many people struggle with mental illnesses, and it's time for the stigma to go away. It's okay to sit down to talk with a therapist on a consistent basis. Whether you talk to your therapist once a week or twice a month, it's really helpful to process your emotions and feelings with a professional who is trained to notice patterns that are keeping you in a negative space.

As you become intentional with these steps, know that you will come across obstacles that will try to stand in your way. The key is to never give up. If you remain committed and determined to peacefully thrive, it can happen. It's all about your choice. Choose to remain peaceful in challenging situations, and your perspective will drastically change. The power is in your hands.
