Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones
with a Medical Mask

medical mask

With the coronavirus pandemic raging across the world, you need to make sure that everyone including your children is fully aware of the problem and can deal with it effectively. This is only possible if you follow the SOPs put in place and one of the most important ones is wearing a medical mask. Given the fact that the virus is spreading primarily through the mouth and nose, a mask is the primary defense mechanism for you. Here is everything you need to know about how using a face mask can protect you and your family from getting infected.

Types of Masks

One thing that you need to understand is that there are many types of masks that you can find out there. All the ones mentioned here are used for medical applications. Therefore, you should be able to use any of them. Each of them has different purposes and protection levels. The ones we are sharing here are all approved for use as protection against the coronavirus.

  1. N95 Mask: This one is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to protection for you and your family. These masks come with at least five layers of filtration and can easily catch particles equivalent to the size of the coronavirus. If you can find these and afford to buy them, you should do so without a second thought.
  2. KN95 Mask: This one is a variant of the N95 mask that is primarily being produced in China. The mask takes the basic principle that you find in the previous version and then copies that to produce an alternative. Due to the shortage of official N95 masks, these have been available in every part of the world. You can find one that is from a reliable source and use that for protecting yourself and your loved ones.
  3. Surgical Mask: This is the mask you commonly see doctors wearing in hospital in their daily routine. These are typically made using non-woven cloth and have three layers of protection. They are cheap and widely available and should be in your ownership as well. Most people are using these masks due to their accessibility and low price. If worn properly and by everyone, they can provide ample protection against the virus.
  4. Cloth Mask: While this is being accepted as a form of protection, it should be the last choice for you. Plain cloth masks do not have the same level of protection as the other types and they are not generally considered to be medical grade either. However, having them as a last resort is still better than not wearing a mask at all.

How to Wear the Mask Properly

To make sure you are protecting yourself and your loved ones from the virus, you need to make sure you are wearing your mask properly. Make sure that the mask you buy is the right size and has a nose adjustment strip on it. Put the mask on in a way that it covers your mouth and your nose properly. Use the nose strip to bend the mask on your nose and make it completely flush with your face. This will make sure that you do not end up inhaling the virus from any gaps. Make sure the mask has a good seal around your mouth and nose before heading out.

Conclusion

It is obvious that wearing masks is one of the most important duties that we need to perform. This is not just for yourself and your family but also everyone else in your community. Promote this practice among your loved ones and to anyone else who you may be acquainted with so everyone can play their part.
