5 Tips to Prevent Dehydration While Vaping

The idea behind vaping is for people to cool off and shut their nicotine cravings off. It, however, comes with some side effects like common dehydration, and vapers need to be addressed. If your vaping juice has a higher level of Propylene Glycol, you have a high probability of getting dehydrated while vaping.

This is a common issue, and you can easily avoid it if you know what to do. Dehydration is not suitable for the body and can result in health issues if not addressed over time.

The reason Propylene Glycol causes dehydration is a factor of the molecular bonds in it. The molecules in Propylene Glycol are hygroscopic – meaning they have a great affinity for water and will attach themselves to available water molecules. This is why it seems you lose water when you vape.

While vaping, the PG content of the eliquid draws all available water from your saliva, mouth, throat, nose, and other surrounding tissues.

Symptoms and Dangers of Dehydration

According to research, about 60% of the entire human body is made of water, which is essential for optimum body function. As a result, constant hydration is necessary for the body organs to keep up with their position.

This explains why the body sounds an alarm during the period of water shortage which manifests in various ways like:

  • Dry eyes
  • Headache
  • Yellow or dark urine
  • Dizziness
  • Increased thirst
  • Dry mouth
  • Reduced volume and frequency of urine

The biological makeup of everyone is pretty different, so not everyone will experience the signs of dehydration early on. Dehydration has a way of creeping in on people unawares. While vaping, pay attention to your thirst level. Once the feeling of thirst creeps in, you are already dehydrated. Other signs like lightheadedness, dry eyes, and dry mouth might follow.

With the foundation laid, here are possible ways to avoid dehydration while enjoying your vape sessions:

  1. Stay Away from Alcohol and Caffeinated Beverages

Vaping and alcoholic drinks are not a good mix. As a result, avoid drinks like tea, soda, coffee while vaping as they contribute to dehydration. Such a drink can significantly increase the feeling of thirst. They can also draw water from the body, making them a horrible combination.

If you want to enjoy your alcoholic drinks or coffee while vaping, make sure to have a glass of water handy to reduce any risk of discomfort. Drinking water while vaping might be uncomfortable, which makes it best to avoid other drinks altogether during vaping.

  1. Check and Adjust Your PG to VG Ratio

A typical vaping juice is a blend of PG and VG. These are two different substances with varying compositions and effects on the user. As indicated above, propylene glycol has an affinity for water, so it has a drying effect on the sinuses. With this, an e-liquid high in PG will likely dehydrate the user.

As a result of this, if you are experiencing dehydration because of the high PG ratio in your e-liquid, you might want to try a juice with more vegetable glycerin. Besides, a lot of people are sensitive to PG, and one of its symptoms is dehydration. With this, if your vape replacement pods can work with a juice with a high VG ratio, make sure to try it.

You can consider using e-juice with 100% vegetable glycerin or 30% propylene glycol and 70% vegetable glycerin combination.

  1. Don’t Vape when you are experiencing Loss of Fluids

The same way vaping and other beverages do not mix, some activities don't go well with vaping. In any situation where you have lost body fluids, vaping is not a good idea. The following is a list of activities or conditions where vaping is not recommended.

  • Presence of an illness or a medication that triggers dehydration
  • During hot temperature where you don’t have access to water
  • During or after working out, manual labor and other demanding activities
  • After leaving the hot sun accompanied by sweating
  • When there is fever, diarrhea, or vomiting.

This type of situation already sets the stage for a low volume of water in the body. Vaping will cause unnecessary stress.

  1. Consume More Vegetables and Fruits

Some fruits and vegetables can rehydrate your body faster than water. Such fruits include cucumber, watermelon, orange, peach, grapefruit, etc. Also, concentrate on green leafy vegetables like lettuce, celery radish, and zucchini.

With such measures, you can ensure your body is well hydrated. This way, when you eventually vape, any loss of water you have might be negligent.

  1. Consume More Water

We saved the most obvious for the last. As a vaper, make it a habit to consume more glasses of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. While doctors recommend at least six glasses of water every day, vapers will need to drink way more than that. This is due to the tendency of vaping to dehydrate users.

In other words, you are increasing the hydration level of your body so that the effect of water loss when vaping will be minimal.

Prevent Dehydration While Vaping

It is a known fact that vaping and dehydration go hand in hand. However, the good news is that you can take creative steps to reduce or avoid dehydration totally and enjoy your vaping session in peace.

These five points can help you enjoy your vape without worrying about dehydration.
