What are the Reasons for Not Getting
Enough Nutrients?

By Mikkie Mills

The food you put inside your body can harm or help. Picking the right foods and eating them in the appropriate amounts often proves to be the wisest dietary approach. Not everyone gets the right amount of nutrients. Denying the body important vitamins, minerals, proteins, antioxidants, and more won't likely support a healthy lifestyle. Is there a reason why some become nutrient deficient? Several reasons exist. Let's take a look at them. First, let's determine what nutrients are and how they work.

Nutrients refer to health-supporting compounds the body cannot make on its own. If the metabolism can't produce the six essential nutrients, how does the body acquire them? The human body absorbs the nutrients from food. Unfortunately, either by accident or design, people don't procure as many nutrients as they should. The following are among the culprits why:

People Eat Empty Calories

Nutrient-rich foods deliver what the body needs. Low-quality food loaded with refined sugars, saturated fat, and processed ingredients come with tons of calories and little to no nutrients. Combining a bag of potato chips, ice cream, and frozen supermarket pizza delivers tons of calories. The useful nutrient content, however, would be non-existent. Anyone concerned about getting the right nutrients may wish to cut back on junk food and eat healthier. And everyone should be concerned about diet choices.

Not Eating Enough Nutrient-Rich Food

A plate of steamed vegetables comes loaded with nutrients. A healthy smoothie made with bananas and blueberries does too. Baked salmon has an incredible array of nutrients. None of those nutrients from any of these food choices enter the body if you don't eat them. People worried about their health and physical appearance may restrict calorie intake. Not eating, however, does nothing towards meeting the goal of metabolizing all-important nutrients. Counting calories and keeping tabs on what you eat is smart. Still, you do need to eat the right foods and eat the right amount of them. Why not try burning calories through exercise while upping the amount of nutrient-rich food consumed?

Not Knowing Nutrient Content

A little self-motivated education goes a long way. Knowing the nutrient content of foods allows for getting the right amount. Scores of resources exist for determining how many grams of nutrients reside in particular food choices. You don't need to memorize anything either. Pull out a smartphone and look up any number of online resources detailing nutritional information. Maybe there's a great app capable of presenting the information. Once you know the nutritional content of food, you can eat the prescribed amounts. Of course, you must also educate yourself about how much constitutes the right quantity. Nothing good comes without effort.

Failure to Buy Quality Supplements

All sorts of diet supplements exist on the market. Some are bland while others stand out. Le-Vel Thrive comes off as unique since it delivers three products intended for an 8-week program. These products prove eye-catching to consumers looking for something original.

Confusion does abound regarding what nutritional supplements do. Over-the-top marketing campaigns promote certain non-FDA approved supplements suggest miraculous results. Not all supplements prescribe to marketing hype. They do what a nutritional supplement can modestly do: the products help overcome dietary deficiencies. A protein shake, for example, could be beneficial to someone who cannot get enough protein through solid food. Quality supplements, like real food, only help when taken. Just be sure to use all supplements correctly. Ingesting too much of a supplement can be problematic.

Act as a smart consumer. Try to avoid rushing into buying any supplements though. Read consumer reviews before purchasing and taking any powders, capsules, or nutritional bars. Make sure to buy the necessary product as well. There's no reason to supplement a diet with a vitamin or other nutrient you already eat in decent amounts. Supplements could be better utilized as a means of addressing diet deficiencies.
