5 Ways to Use Baking Soda To Improve Your Skin
By Craig Middleton
Baking soda helps prevent bacteria and is one of the most effective remedies for skin conditions. It is suitable for greasy, porous, or acne-prone skin. It may be used for exfoliation, as a face mask, and for getting rid of acne. When used regularly, baking soda can cause your skin to appear softer, and clearer. Here are some of the five ways you can use baking soda to improve your skin.
- Face Wash
You do not need a sophisticated concoction to wash your face; baking soda can do the trick. Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with a teaspoon of lukewarm water and make a paste. Wash your face and apply the mixture around the face using circular motions. Focus mainly on areas with acne or large pores. Leave it to dry for seven minutes and then rinse your face with luke-warm water and pat your face dry.
Exfoliation helps get rid of dead skin and impurities embedded underneath your skin. This helps reduce blackheads. The use of baking soda for exfoliation helps one achieve a clearer skin. Add baking soda to some oats, or any cream cleanser, and mix with luke-warm water. After wetting your face, apply the mixture in circular motions. Leave it to dry for five minutes. Rinse your face with luke-warm water and pat it dry.
- Detox Mask
Baking soda is effective in removing toxins from the skin. Make a paste of 2 teaspoons of soda with a teaspoon of lukewarm water. Wash your face before applying the mixture and leaving it to dry for a few minutes. Rinse your face with luke-warm water and pat it dry. You can apply this formula for a detox bath by using 1-2 cups of soda with Epsom salt.
- Lightening Mask
Baking soda has also proven effective for lightening skin. If applied regularly with lemon juice, you can expect lighter and healthier skin in a matter of weeks. Pour out some lemon juice and mix with two teaspoons of baking soda and some warm water. Apply the thin paste over your face and leave it to dry completely. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat it dry.
- Curing Skin Conditions
Baking soda, along with olive oil, sea salts, and other natural substances are recommended for hidradenitis suppurativa natural treatment. Baking soda is also effective in removing pimples and blackheads.
Pimples and blackheads form almost the same way. Your skin pores are linked to sebaceous glands under the surface of the skin, below the hair follicles. Sebaceous glands produce a sticky oily substance known as sebum. It is released into your hair follicles and finally onto your skin together with dead skin cells. When the sebaceous glands are overactive, they produce excess sebum and the pores of your skin are clogged with skin cells and oil. This forms a plug that attracts bacteria that cause an infection. Eventually, a pimple or black head forms.
To get rid of pimples using baking soda, add toothpaste to some baking powder and water. The paste works best at night for eradicating pimples. It is worth noting that whitening toothpaste is discouraged for this procedure because it contains bleaching agents.
To get rid of blackheads, mix baking soda with water and form a paste. Massage the mixture into the area with black head. Leave the paste to absorb on the blackheads for at least one minute before rinsing.
Baking soda is an effective skin product. Its strength is derived from its anti-bacterial properties. It is also cheap and offers a natural DIY solution for skin care. Whether you want to cleanse your skin of impurities, to exfoliate, to lighten your skin, or to get rid of pimples or blemishes, baking soda is guaranteed to do the trick.
