How to Live Healtheir in 2017
By Craig Middleton
How are your resolutions coming? We hope you're still charged up for the new year; all the same, we definitely understand if you're feeling overwhelmed by the pressure inherent to making big changes in your life. We'd like to suggest a few simple ways that you can start living a happier, healtheir life in 2017.
Get More Exercise
Not nearly enough American adults meet the recommended amount of exercise (30 minutes a day); in fact, according to the President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, that number is around 5%.
While you don't need to jump right into competing in triathlons, a simple 30-minute walk or run around the neighborhood can do wonders for your physical and mental health. Weight-lifting is another great form of exercise; it promotes hormonal balance, as well as the release of serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins.
It's become quite clear that plant-based diets are one of the best ways to protect both the planet and your own health. But look: we're not crazy about the idea of going totally vegan, either—honestly, a life entirely without cheese seems pretty intense.
However, in recent years, there's been a trend towards "flexitarianism." Quite simply, flexitarians attempt to eat substantially less meat and dairy. It's a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and your waistband at the same time.
Spend Less Time Looking at Screens
Not only can constant smartphone use, web-browsing, and television-watching be harmful to your eyes and your sleep cycle, these activities can also have a negative effect on your posture. Many chiropractors have noted a substantial increase in neck problems related to the neck-craning that's common to phone and technology use. We love our phones too, but it's important to take a break now and then. Ultimately, it's a good idea to avoid screens for at least a half-hour before you sleep; taking 10 minute breaks each hour is also beneficial.
Quitting smoking is extremely hard to do, but luckily many people who have struggled in the past have achieved newfound success through vaping. Vaping has become one of the most popular quitting methods in recent years because, unlike patches or gum, vaping provides a similar sensation. This helps overcome the psychological aspect of the addiction. There are so many flavors and strengths of e-juice available that you can quit smoking in an enjoyable way.
Users can safely and easily "wean themselves" off of nicotine by vaping e-juice with progressively-lower nicotine content. Whether you're using a simple starter kit, a nice vape pen, or a top vaporizer, 2017 could be the year that you quit smoking and start living a healtheir life.
One More Tip
If you're really trying to make serious changes in your life, it's going to take time to fully accept the new habits, activities, and behaviors you want in your life. That means that you may slip up a little every once in awhile. Slip-ups don't have to mean that you abandon a diet, exercise plan, or an attempt to quit smoking.
The key is to avoid thinking of yourself as either "100% on" or "100% off" of your resolutions. If you've successfully tried to quit smoking for over a month, but then you slip and have a cigarette one day, that doesn't mean you're completely back to your old ways. You've still put in a lot of work and had good results. You've still got the time to make 2017 the year you take control of your health.
