Laws in Canada For Production and Supply

Canada is among the few countries that have legalized weed use for recreational purposes. It was in 2018 when the Cannabis Act came into force. The main purpose of this act was to stop the expansion of the illegal cannabis market and halt youth access to cannabis.

Though some rules are still in the development phase, every state has a different set of laws. Under the Cannabis Act, strict criminal penalties are established for someone who either uses a youth for committing a cannabis offense or sells cannabis to someone less than 19 years old.

Want to know more about cannabis laws? In this post, we have mentioned the laws for production and supply.

What is Legal Under Act?

Knowing what is legal and illegal can be quite confusing to understand. But don’t worry, we are here to help you.

  • Cannabis can only be bought by individuals over 19 years. It is illegal to sell or buy cannabis by youth.
  • Individuals should only buy cannabis from a licensed retailer or federally licensed online website.
  • You can make cannabis products at home using organic solvents only.
  • On 17 October 2019, cannabis edible products are legal for sale.

What is Illegal Under Act?

As mentioned above, the Cannabis Act protects the youth. Certain things are prohibited under this act.

  • Appealing or attractive packaging and labeling for youth.
  • Products that attract youth.
  • Cannabis cannot be supplied through vending machines or self-service displays.
  • Any cannabis product that is unauthorized as per Cannabis Act.

Growing in Home

According to Federal legislation, Canadians can grow small amounts of cannabis for personal use. For this, you can get seeds from a regulated retailer.

  • You can only have four plants per residence.
  • If you live in multi-family dwellings or are a renter or condo-dweller, you cannot grow cannabis.
  • It is crucial for you to grow cannabis for personal use yourself and not pass it on to someone else.
  • Individuals who are physically unable to cultivate cannabis can ask others to do it for them. That is because they want to use cannabis for medical purposes.
  • Since cannabis can be harmful to pets and children, it is imperative for you to lock the growing space. Also, you must dispose of the waste properly.
  • The indoor air should be healthy. For this, you must keep an eye on the humidity levels, use a carbon monoxide detector and dehumidifiers.
  • Try to use fewer pesticides and carefully choose the ones you want to use.

Supplying In Vaughan

For a long time, cannabis was only available at the licensed retail stores. Now, online websites can also sell cannabis after getting a license. It is essential for the buyer to pay for the cannabis product in advance.

  • Weed delivery Vaughan should be made to the specified address.
  • The product can only be handed over to the buyer or a person who resides there and is above 19 years old.
  • The delivery staff must check the identification of the receiver before handing over the product. If someone appears to be under the age of 25, you must check the identification issued by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario.
  • Cannabis products must be sold in the original packing. Ensure the contents are not visible to underage.
  • The cannabis must be delivered between 9 AM and 11 PM.

There are certain circumstances under which the production, sale, and distribution of cannabis is illegal. The person who breaks the law will be subject to criminal penalties. You either have to pay a fine or will be imprisoned for up to 14 years.

In the end, you must be careful when growing and supplying cannabis. Make sure you don’t give the product to any minor. Always check the identification of the buyer before giving the cannabis product. By keeping these laws in mind, grow safely and within the law.
