World Events and Natural Disasters Trigger Your Fear and Anxiety

By By Doris Jeanette, Psy.D.

Natural disasters, wars, 9/11, deaths, earthquakes are triggers for your personal fear and conditioned anxiety. I have noticed this world wide anxiety pattern for over 30 years with my friends and my clients. When the World Trade Centers where destroyed, when Diana died in a car accident, when John Lennon was killed by a man, people react.

Jack came into my office after the fighting in the Middle East worsen, "I cannot sleep anymore. What is wrong with me?" He did not connect the world events with his insomnia. "No, I have never had any fear or anxiety," he reported, "Never."

Jack could not sleep because he was having anxiety attacks about getting killed. The reason he felt like he was suddenly hit over the head with insomnia is because he had not been dealing with his fears of intimacy and emotional closeness in his daily live. He had been avoiding his real fear and binding his anxiety.

Jack asked me, "Am I losing my mind?" "No," I reassured him, "You are not losing your mind, you are losing your denial. Your fears of intimacy and negative reactions to emotional closeness have been in your unconscious for many years, but you have been avoiding them. The fighting in the Middle East is a stimulus which is bringing up your real fear and anxiety to your conscious mind."

I counseled Jack, "I will teach you how to stop your anxiety attacks now so you can reduce your insomnia. Then you need to deal with your deeper emotions and feelings which you have been avoiding. This will keep your panic attacks from coming back. You can learn how to relax, feel your feelings and face the real fears in your life."

So, now is the time to look inward and focus on your real fear and conditioned anxiety so the next time a disaster happens you are prepared. An added perk is you get to enjoy the many other benefits of relaxing and becoming emotionally healthy.

Remember, any unconscious material you have been denying, erupts when natural disasters or world events happen. If you do not deal with your personal anxiety and real fears now, you might develop anxiety attacks when the next earthquake or terrorist attack occurs. Or you develop insomnia when the next rapists comes to your neighbor or the next bridge disater happens across town.

If you do nothing to reduce your anxiety, anxiety grows bigger and bigger. Anxiety generalizes into more and more life situations. This means your world becomes smaller and smaller and your pleasure diminishes.

To expand your world, turn around and face the real fear and anxiety you have been avoiding. Your pleasure improves in everyday life and the next time a natural disaster happens you are prepared.

Be prepared to deal with the next scary world event in an emotionally healthy fashion...

Anxiety Signs and Anxiety Help

There are 9.1 million Americans, 18 to 54, who suffer from anxiety disorders. This number does not include our precious children who have been diagnosed and already drugged. This makes anxiety the most common mental health problem in the USA.

If you do not live in the USA, here is a link which tells you how many people are anxious in your country: Anxiety Disorder Statistics.

These numbers do not include the millions who have not been labeled with an official diagnosis. The millions who have trouble sitting down and relaxing under a cherry tree all afternoon long in the sun. The millions who cannot rest their body and mind so they can enjoy the moment, the day, the light, the energy of love. This number may not include you and your anxiety.

How anxious are you? Can you sit still and relax without having to read? Or talk? Or watch TV, or play a game, or use your computer? If not, anxiety is ruining the quality of your life and keeping you from using your natural talents and wonderful skills. Here are some signs to help you to become more aware of your anxiety, which is different from your fear.

8 Signs Which Indicate You Have Anxiety

  1. Your breath stops up high in your chest
  2. Thoughts are obsessive, racing or telling you things you should do
  3. Your physical body is tight and tense or loose and fat
  4. You are unable to sit still and be in the moment without activities
  5. You are not aware of your physical surroundings as you go through your day
  6. You are not aware of your physical body - for example, your feet and butt, right now!
  7. You hyperventilate, which means you are breathing quickly and gasping for air in certain situations
  8. You have a startle response to any noise, movement or situation in your environment at any time
Most of you know drugs, legal or illegal, are dangerous. You probably also know psychotherapy and talk therapy are limited in their ability to relax your nervous system. What you need is safe, effective anxiety help.

Dr. Doris Jeanette is an anxiety expert, with 30 years of clinical experience helping people relax and reduce anxiety. She can teach you effective, safe solutions. Her approach is not cognitive behavior therapy, yoga or meditation. Her approach is based on body awareness and emotional wellness.

"I want to just say 'WOW!' This collection is probably the best money I ever spent! I've already received many times over in personal enrichment after just 9 days. I've had a past metaphysical background, but even newcomers to this material will really benefit. Thanks again." ~ J.S. (Pennsylvania, USA)
"The collection is everything which you promised. And more! A superb contribution to the good of the world. Many thanks indeed." ~ R.P. (Georgia, USA)
"Just a short note of thanks for the library. I've only had membership for several days now but I already feel this is perhaps the most interesting compilation I have yet seen. Worth far more than the price of admission. The browser linked structure works well and makes it easy to manage such a large storehouse of information. It is rarely that I find something I like as much as this or that I feel strongly enough to write a note like this." ~ P.W. (Minnesota, USA)
