How to Clean Your Teeth With Braces

How to Clean Your Teeth With Braces

Did you know that braces can help correct issues that cause headaches and jaw pain? It is no secret that dental problems can cause discomfort in life. Therefore, it is necessary to know how to clean your teeth with braces if you want to align your teeth and mouth.

This can help prevent the pain from occurring while preventing problems like diastema. Here is all the information about how to clean braces so you can enjoy the perfect sparkly smile that everyone will envy.

Buy the Right Toothbrush

The first step in cleaning teeth is investing in the right toothbrush. You may be tempted to go for the cheapest brushes on the market while wearing braces, but you should avoid doing this.

Inexpensive toothbrushes will not last long because the metal and wire from your braces will wear out the bristles. An electric toothbrush can be the perfect option for cleaning braces.

Find out more if you can get braces during your first appointment and ask your dentist about the types of toothbrushes to buy for proper care.

How to Clean Your Teeth With Braces

Before brushing your teeth, you need to rinse your mouth with water. This will dislodge food particles that may be stuck in your braces. To ensure that everything gets a rinse, you must gargle and swish with water for approximately 30 seconds.

Then you need to rinse your toothbrush before putting toothpaste on it. This will help eliminate all bacteria and debris that may be left behind from your previous brush.

Think about your mouth as four quadrants. You must dedicate 30 seconds to each section to avoid missing key areas. There is no need to brush hard. Otherwise, you risk damaging the brackets and wires of your braces.

Electric toothbrushes are better because some high-end models come with sensors that can detect if you are using too much force. While brushing, always hold your brush at a 45-degree angle above your gum line.

Then brush the outer surfaces of your braces and teeth while scrubbing around each bracket. Do not neglect your back teeth because there are harder-to-reach molars that can succumb to cavities. After completing this, concentrate on the spaces between your braces.

Push the bristles gently from the top in between your braces. Then give each area some solid strokes. After that, insert the bristles from the bottom and repeat the previous step.

The spinning bristles may get stuck in your wires, so turn off the electric feature during this stage and brush manually for a gentler effect. When you are finished, rinse your mouth again with water to flush away all debris and food particles that will be dislodged around your mouth.

Cleaning Teeth the Right Way

Now that you know how to clean your teeth with braces, it is time to visit your dentist and shop for the right toothbrush. Remember to brush twice a day unless your dentist recommends more.

Practice slow brushing until you get used to cleaning teeth with braces. Eventually, you will get into a routine, and cleaning braces will become a breeze. If you enjoyed reading this dental guide, check out some of our other posts for more information.
