The Goldendoodle and Labradoodle Comparison. What's the Difference?
Woof! Your puppy calls for your attention. You may understand that the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle are rather different in terms of characteristics and genes. So how can you tell which breed of dog belongs to you?
You will need to consider:
- The breed of the dog
- The size of the dog
- The coat of the dog
- The dog's social skills
The Breed of the Dog
The least noticeable but main factor that distinguishes the Goldendoodle from the Labradoodle is their respective breed. The Goldendoodle as the name states is an amalgamation of the poodle and a Golden Retriever dog. The Labradoodle is a type of dog that is produced when a purebred Labrador and poodle mate.
The Size of the Dog
Scrutinizing the weight and height of your dog will help you decide which breed of dog you have. Goldendoodle dogs are not very large dogs with the Labradoodle dog known to be considerably bigger. Dogs that weigh about 80 pounds (ca. 36kg)and seem much taller will most probably be Labradoodle dogs.
The Behavior of the Dog
Sometimes the size of the dog can be deceiving. Your Goldendoodle dog can also be about 80 pounds; therefore, another deciding factor would be the individual behaviour or mannerism of the dog. Labradoodle dogs are highly active dogs that will bark loudly for and crave more exercise. If your puppy is of this breed, he or she will react rather excited to a game of catch. A Goldendoodle dog, on the other hand, is much timider and tends to be less active. These dogs would not need as many walks in the park to be happy.
The Coat of the Dog
The fur coat of the dog will resemble the skin of the parents that produced the dog. While each dog may have similar coloured fur, the Labradoodle may have short and wavy hair. The Goldendoodle can have straight hair or hair with a slight curl -the coat again will resemble that of the parents. Goldendoodle dogs are generally assumed to have longer hair.
The Dog's Social Skills
You will know that you have a Labradoodle if your dog is overly friendly. The playful nature of the dog makes them a fun-loving pet to keep. They require an initial introduction to other household pets and family members. However, once they are acquainted with others, they tend to be loving and welcoming. The dog is relatively open to new faces, so it is not recommended to keep the Labradoodle as a guard dog. You may have to beware that your dog doesn't enthusiastically greet very young children. They may do more than a lick and may pounce on kids too. The Goldendoodle dog is a faithful companion and a breed especially perfect for people who are disabled. They enjoy human company and are pleased when getting to be around humans. Due to their intellectual nature, you are more likely to train these dogs efficiently.
Still being clueless as to whether your puppy is a Labradoodle or a Goldendoodle, need not cause you to sigh! Either doodle type makes ideal companions. You couldn't ask for a happier and more loyal dog type. Both types of dogs are:
- Actively react to reinforcement.
