Finding the Right Dentist for You

Find the Right Dentist

Choosing the right dentist is important, but can be a difficult process. With so many to choose from, it's hard to know where to start. It's time consuming to go from office to office, checking out all their offers. But don't worry! We have some tips that will help you narrow down your search quickly and find the dentist that is perfect for you.

This post talks about how to pick a dentist by narrowing down what you want before even looking and then finding dentists who match those needs.

1. Convenience Factor

Convenience means many things. It could be proximity to your home, their office hours, and more. Scheduling a dentist's appointment to coincide with your hours of employment may prove difficult. Take that into account when looking for a dentist. Hours are often posted on dentist's websites, or on their Google My Business listing.

Choosing a dentist who is near your place of work or home will also make it easier to schedule appointments and get in contact with them if need be.

2. Do They Accept Your Insurance?

In order to take advantage of your dental benefits, you will want to see if the dentist you are considering is a part of your dental insurance provider's network. If they are not, you may want to look elsewhere. This will help to lower your out-of-pocket costs.

If you do not have dental insurance, you might want to see if the dentist will give you a good price for paying cash up front. Additionally, some dentists offer payment plans and other membership plans that will reduce the cost of check-ups and other procedures.

3. Check Out Their Online Reviews

Reading the reviews that patients have left for the dental practice only will help you know what to expect from them. In addition to factoring in the quality of dental reviews they have, it is wise to consider the amount of reviews they have.

The more reviews they have the more clear of a picture you will be able to paint about how their practice operates and what you should be able to expect upon your visit. For instance, Bent Creek Dental has over 600 reviews as of this writing making them an excellent choice for a dentist in Auburn, AL.

4. Schedule an Exam

Once you think you have found a dentist that fits your criteria, schedule an appointment. In most cases, exams are fairly inexpensive and in some cases, you can even get complimentary consultations for specific procedures. Either way, this is a good opportunity to start really deciding if the dentist you are seeing is going to be the one you will want to continue seeing. Keep reading for more insights on things to look for.

5. Get to Know the Staff

Much of your interactions in the office will be with the staff, so get to know them. Are they friendly? Do they help to create a comfortable and caring environment? What about the dentist? You will want to be able to communicate well with the dentist so that you fully understand the treatment plan, procedures, pricing, risks, and have any concerns resolved before proceeding with treatment. Trust is something that is important with your dentist.

6. Technology & Technique

Experience is a good thing, but it is important to visit a dentist that is on top of the latest techniques. Does the dental office provide state-of-the-art technology? Is the dentist keeping up with the latest advancements in technique and continuing education? These things can reduce complications, pain, and provide better and faster results in many instances. For instance, CBCT's can give a dentist a 3D view of your mouth and jaw, lasers can make more precise cuts and reduce bleeding, and L-PRF™ Platelet Therapy can reduce healing time after you get your wisdom teeth removed.

There are many other types of important technology that dentists are implementing and it is always changing. Be sure to ask the dentist and staff about those technologies they have which make life easier for patients.
