Eyeglasses: Form, Fashion & the Future
Since their invention in the 13th century, eyeglasses have grown to become as common as scarves and hats. They’re a vision aid, but also an accessory worn by approximately 126 million Americans.
In recent decades, eyeglasses have moved from being just a necessity for things like vision correction and blocking UV rays, to being a significant fashion statement as well. As our society has become more and more individualized and access to accurate lenses has become commonplace, we’re able to shift the focus to things like preferred lens coatings and frame styles.
The current cost of the average pair of glasses is $576, but that hasn’t slowed us down. In fact, just a few years ago, we were usually buying only one pair of glasses per year, but today we are buying multiple pairs every year, just to have a variety available.
Eyeglasses are not only helpful for general vision, but they’re now part of showing off our personal style.
