What is CBD Oil & How Does It Help in Chronic Pain?

Cannabis is the name given to the whole genus of flowering plants known collectively as marijuana. While the two terms may seem interchangeable, they are not synonymous. Marijuana refers specifically to the dried flowers of female Cannabis sativa plants while CBD oil refers to the extracts derived from these cultivated plants.

Both forms of cannabis contain terpenes and cannabinoids, and both offer medicinal benefits. The primary difference between the two is that CBD contains little or none of the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive chemical responsible for giving marijuana its characteristic “high.”

CBD oil was first discovered in 1940 when Dr. Ethan Russo isolated cannabidiol from the hemp plant. At that time, he tested the extract on mice to see if it had any sort of therapeutic effect. He then went on to test large groups of patients suffering from tuberculosis. He concluded that THC could help treat symptoms of TB.

However, when he tried similar tests on humans, his results were inconclusive. Since then, scientists around the world have conducted countless studies on CBD and its effects on the body. Today, researchers believe that CBD can help treat many illnesses and diseases including cancer, epilepsy, anxiety, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, heart conditions, migraines, arthritis, autoimmune disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and even acne. The legal landscape regarding CBD is still unfolding, but what can be said without a doubt is that the drug is taking off—a fact attested by the amount of research being published every week. There are dozens upon dozens of published studies into CBD, ranging from brain-related neurological diseases to various types of cancers, to sex drive, to bone density. And numerous well-designed human clinical trials, too.

CBD or Cannabidiol oil extracted from Marijuana is known to have many health benefits, but did you know it helps relieve chronic pain? In this article, we’re going to discuss some of the latest research done around CBD and chronic pain relief.

What Are the Benefits of CBD Oil for Chronic Pain?

In case you haven’t heard of it yet, CBD is cannabidiol, and it’s a cannabinoid compound that comes from hemp. And here’s what makes CBD different from THC — THC is the psychoactive chemical that causes marijuana highs.

So in other words, CBD isn’t psychoactive at all. It doesn’t cause any feelings of being “high” or intoxicated. Instead, it relieves many symptoms associated with chronic pain.

There are many reasons why CBD is good for people suffering from severe joint pain, muscle spasms, and nerve pain. One reason is that CBD activates certain receptors in the brain called CB2 receptors — and that reduces inflammation and pain signals.

Another benefit of CBD is its ability to target CB1 receptors, which are found in the brain, spinal cord, and throughout our bodies. This means that CBD relaxes muscles while still allowing you to feel normal sensations.

CBD Ice Cream

When it comes to treating chronic pain, CBD ice cream is the ultimate remedy. This dessert provides a great alternative to consuming THC, especially when you live in a state where recreational marijuana is illegal. CBD ice cream is the creation of Ice Canna, a California-based company that specializes in creating delicious CBD-infused gourmet desserts that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth!
