Important Ways Your Smart Phone Can Improve Your Health

By Elliot Caleira

In this day and age, nothing is more reliable than technology. Phones are used to stay in touch, find directions, take and save pictures, etc., but are they being used to their full potential? Nearly everyone has a smart phone in 2019, and it is important to make sure that these iPhones (and Samsungs) are being used in a helpful way. There are many apps available on the App Store (or Playstore) that look out for mental and physical health.

Physical Health

There are so many apps that can help with managing physical health. From healthcare apps to dieting apps to exercise maintenance apps, there are so many ways that these smartphones can help their owners stay healthy.

Healthcare Apps
These can be used to store data of health records, doctors appointments, immunizations, and more. Certain doctors use healthcare apps to communicate directly with patients. They also can function as a source of information that patients and those with health risks can use to keep and find reliable information about a condition or illness.

Dieting Apps
There are thousands of apps on the Apple and Playstore that allow users to keep track of what they are eating. Many apps allow users to set what their goals are for weight loss, sodium intake, etc. and then monitors what they are eating to ensure they reach their goals. Dieting apps can help people eat healthier and achieve their weight loss goals.

Exercise Maintenance Apps
Exercise goals sound great on paper, but it can be really hard to commit to regularly attending a gym. With exercise apps, there are workouts available at one’s fingertips. There are all kinds of different types of specializations for exercise as well: yoga, cardio, abdominal workouts, etc. Using exercise apps makes it so much easier to get a workout in at home during a free period of the day.

Mental/Emotional Health

Maintaining mental/emotional health is essential for reducing stress. Just like with physical health, a smart phone and certain apps on the Appstore can help their users stay emotionally healthy.

Meditation Apps
One way that a category of apps on the Apple or Playstore can help with emotional health is meditation. There are many apps that guide users through meditation that range from beginner meditators to more advanced levels. Just a simple search of meditation in the app store can bring up highly rated meditation apps that have proven to be effective.

Countdown Apps
Another important way to maintain mental health is to include vacations, birthdays, parties, or something else to look forward to. Having a highly anticipated event makes enduring the stresses of school or work much easier. There are thousands of countdown apps that can be used to create customizable events to eagerly await.

Journaling Apps One of the most important ways to maintain a positive mental state is to regularly write in a journal. Writing down feelings or events that occurred during the day is a very healthy coping mechanism for the regular stresses of life. It can be hard to remember to journal with the business of life; a journaling app is perfect for those who may be prone to forget. Journaling apps are customizable and can send daily notifications to remind the user to write a journal entry for that night. It can be as simple as writing a sentence or two but make a world of difference in emotional health.

Maintaining physical and mental health takes a lot of work but can be made so much easier through the utilization of apps through smartphones. Having apps that send reminders and are constantly available makes it simpler than ever to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Instead of downloading another Solitaire or Candy Crush app, try downloading an app that can be very beneficial if used regularly.
