However, it will still be best to consider how the treatment will affect your career before undergoing the procedure.

3. Will LASIK Affect My Recreational Activities?


Those who have an active lifestyle may be taking part in contact sports such as basketball, boxing, judo, mixed-martial arts and the like. If you take part in any of these and similar activities, you may want to consult with the eye surgeon regarding recovery period prior to the procedure. Those who take part in other recreational activities such as swimming, water sports and running may also have to forgo training until their eyes have healed fully.

4. Am I Too Old to Undergo LASIK?


Despite being around for more than 20 years, there is not enough data to determine whether one is too old or too young to undergo the treatment. There are several considerations, of course, for older people who wish to undergo refractive surgery including the development of cataracts, pterygium and other eye health problems. There are also those who underwent LASIK to correct nearsightedness who started developing farsightedness soon after the procedure. Far sightedness naturally comes to some as we age. The eye doctor, of course, will address all of these concerns during the pre-operation examination.

5. Can I Afford the Treatment?


The cost of LASIK treatment varies depending on a number of variables. It can cost anywhere from $1,000 to up to $3,000 per eye. The costs include pre and post-operative care, the surgery itself, post operation examinations and follow up LASIK procedures if needed. Most insurance providers do not cover LASIK treatments as they consider it as an elective surgery. However, this makes the cost of LASIK surgery very competitive.

Apart from addressing these questions, you can also do a bit of research regarding LASIK, as well as ask friends who have undergone the surgery about their experience.
