The Power of Self-Love and How to Accomplish It

Loving yourself can be a challenge for anyone. With so many negative impacts and bad energy in the world, it can be easy to get down on yourself. Society tells us that we should be one way, but what if we don’t naturally conform to what society thinks? This can lead to some inner confusion and turmoil, often resulting in a lack of self-love.

Loving yourself, no matter who you are and what your past has looked like, is extremely powerful. In order to live life to the fullest, self-love and self-care is a necessity. Before you give love to others, you must be willing to accept love for yourself. Here are a few things you can do to promote self-love in your life.

Find a hobby you enjoy

With busy work schedules and hectic family lives, people often forget about the hobbies they used to love and cherish. It has been scientifically proven that when you take on a hobby that you enjoy - especially one that you’re good at - you experience a boost in your body's endorphins. No matter what it is, find something you like to do and start doing it!

Cut down on social media

The world of social media is a wonderful thing. It connects you to people across the globe and even allows you to network for your career. But it can also be extremely detrimental to your sense of self-love. Oftentimes with social media, you only see the “perfection” of your friends’ lives and start comparing your own life to what you see on your social media feed.

You need to remember that the lives of your friends are not actually perfect. They are just putting perfect images and statuses out into the world. So you need to stop comparing your own life to what you see throughout social media. Asking you to eliminate your social media accounts might be out of the question; just try to cut down on time spent browsing Facebook and Instagram.

Let things go

One of the main deterrents to self-love is not being able to let go. Bad memories from our past tend to linger in our minds, and letting them go can be hard work. But you need to keep in mind that holding on to these negative experiences just keeps us from moving forward. Once you learn to let things go, you can truly accept yourself and experience true self-love.

Create a daily self-love ritual

Every day you should partake in a self-love ritual. This will look different for each individual, so do what you personally feel is right. After a stressful job interview answering situational interview questions or a chaotic day at home catering to the kids, you need to take time for yourself.

Spend at least 30 minutes each day catering to your own needs and doing what you enjoy. Maybe that means reading a good book, indulging in a glass of wine, or taking a bubble bath. Whatever it might be, try to take some time out of each day looking after and loving yourself.
