Personal Development Goals for a Better You

One of the best decisions you can make for yourself right now is to make a concerted effort to continuously strive to develop yourself. Whether it is the quality of your life, achieving more, becoming a better person, or simply trying to find the best version of yourself, steadily tracking goals is the most effective way of marking your progress.

Embrace Empathy

Trust your intuition and explore different perspectives in as many ways as you can.

Keep Confident

Studies have shown that your IQ is not the single most important component for your success. Instead, factors like effective goal setting, perseverance, and self-confidence play much more of a determining role.

Your self-esteem can be defined as the opinion you have of yourself. When you have a positive evaluation of your ability, you will find you are more successful when attempting something new.

Visualise yourself succeeding and reward yourself when you get things done. Make a habit of paying attention to the way you think about yourself.

Listen Up

Actively learning to pay attention to other people when they’re speaking sends the message that you value them and what they have to say.

Start using more open-ended questions, be careful not to interrupt others, and look at what your body language is saying. Focus on whoever is in front of you and give them 100% of your awareness.

Face Your Fears

To eliminate fear, you’ll need to expose yourself to what you’re scared of. You’ll find that most things aren’t half as bad as your overthinking has made them seem, and as you start consciously examining your anxiety, calmness and rationality will take over.

Take time out if you need to and focus on your breathing.

Better Your Body Language

Once you become aware of how much you’re communicating non-verbally you’ll find your assertiveness, confidence, and approachability getting huge reactions from those around you.

Certain body postures can even help you physically improve your performance, like straightening your back, keeping your head high, and walking purposefully when you enter a room.

Make Connections

Whether it’s a quick word with the barista on your morning coffee run, a friendly chat with a fellow player when you’re enjoying online bingo NZ, or saying good morning as you pass a stranger on the street, look for ways to connect.

Get to Know Yourself

Knowing and liking who you are is a prerequisite for understanding and enjoying other people.

Explore your skills, celebrate your experiences, set some aspirations, and accept your limitations.

What do you enjoy doing? How do you like to spend your downtime? What would you like to do more of?

Overcome Procrastination

The first step towards beating procrastination is understanding that it’s not a character flaw, but a bad habit you’ve fallen into. This means that there are steps you can take to combat it.

Break your workload down into smaller steps, ensure your environment is suited to what you need to be doing, and create a detailed timeline outlining what needs to get done.

Wake Up Earlier

Get into a bedtime routine and stick to it. Make a point of getting at least eight hours of sleep each night and wake up earlier to make the day your own. Set yourself a curfew, take a book to bed, and make sure that your sleeping environment is as restful and calm as the world’s best beaches.

What you do with your extra time in the morning is up to you, but sneaking in some exercise, a long shower, and a healthy breakfast are all recommended!

Start Being More Proactive

Do you consider yourself to be the creator of your life? Eschew the notion that you’re a victim of circumstance, and start making a point of determining your fate.

Take responsibility for your actions and start mapping out a life journey you’re excited about. Create healthy habits, develop good coping strategies, and reward yourself whenever you meet a deadline.

Live in the Now

Let go of the past and allow yourself to exist fully in the present moment. It’s the only way to be happy! Forgive yourself for mistakes you’ve made, pardon those who’ve let you down, and trust that the future is going to take care of itself.

Start Reading

Read more, read often, and read everything! When you’re enjoying a good book, be it fact or fiction, your vocabulary gets better, your spelling improves, and your mind absorbs new information. Creating this kind of cognitive engagement creates calm and can even lower your blood pressure.

Foster Resilience

Resilience is the ability to deal with setbacks and overcome adversity, the difference between feeling overwhelmed and helpless or confident and safe. Make connections, maintain a daily routine, take breaks as and when you need to, nurture a positive self-view, and keep your goals in mind.
