4 Simple Ways to Find Happiness
Following a Major Move

find happiness

By Mikkie Mills

Home is absolutely where the heart is. Moving can seem daunting, terrifying, and downright miserable if you’re leaving the place you’ve called home for any period of time, but it’s also exhilarating and liberating. It’s natural to feel apprehensive moving away from home, but it’s entirely possible to make yourself happy anywhere you live. All you have to do is follow a few simple rules for living your best life to make it happen no matter where in the world you decide to go.

Try New Things
Take some time to unpack and settle into your new home, and then try some new things. One of the best ways to foster a sense of happiness wherever you are is to go new places, try new things, and become a braver version of you. You are in a new place, and you get to reinvent yourself. If you’re someone who doesn’t usually venture outside your comfort zone, make a change in your new location. Trying new things makes you braver, happier, and more adventurous. Some of the best places to live in Nebraska are surrounded by new and exciting things to try, places to go, and people to meet.

A great idea is to try new things you don’t have where you lived before. Did you always want to try a yoga class, but you didn’t have one where you lived in the past? Try it now. Did you always want to stop for coffee at a trendy little shop, but there wasn’t one on your way to work? If there is now, try it. Make it a point to enjoy all the things your new city has to offer that your old one didn’t.

Meet New People
You won’t find happiness anywhere in the world if you don’t make an effort to meet new people to call friends. It’s intimidating, and that’s a fact. To meet new people, you can try taking a class, joining the gym, visiting chamber mixers, and just saying hi when you go new places. It’s much easier than you imagine to make new friends because most people are just as shy and afraid to try as you. When you make the first move, most people will reciprocate quickly.

Make it Your Intention to Be Happy
Believe it or not, it’s much easier than you think to be happy. You can wake up in the morning and set your intentions for the day. it’s a traditional yoga practice to close your eyes, clear your mind, and breathe in and out deeply and slowly. As you do this, set your intentions for the day ahead of you. Make it a priority to find joy in the little things.

Set a goal to find a new favorite coffee shop and let a decadent new blend set your mood for the day. Find a sweet park with a lovely water view and make it a point to really take in the beauty surrounding you. When you set your intention to have a good day, a happy day, and a day you enjoy, it’s far easier to find joy in the simple.

Give it Time
You won’t be living your best, happiest life in your new home overnight. You’ll miss your friends, your old home, your old stomping grounds. It’s imperative you allow yourself to really feel the sadness of leaving home so you can properly grieve your loss. Set a timeframe to cry and be done with it. After that, your only goal is to make your new home your real home and set about to make your new city your own.

No one feels right at home the moment they move, but you can give yourself time to settle in and make your new house a home. Moving is terrifying, but it’s your own job to make yourself happy and focus on the good in life. You choose your mood and how it affects the rest of your day, so get started choosing wisely today.
