Tips to Get Inspired When Life Feels Boring

Get Inspired

Being bored can severely affect your performance at work or anywhere else. Especially when you feel that everything is boring and dull. Without enough motivation and inspiration to perform better, your career and future achievements might be in danger.

According to a poll done by Gallup back in 2011. 71% of American workers are bored and not engaged at all. They feel disconnected from their work and therefore are more prone to waste their time. In the last poll, Gallup found that only 29% of workers are engaged, while 52% are not engaged and 19% are actively disengaged.

This is why you shouldn’t take boredom lightly. It’s considered to be a productivity killer for a reason. And the best way to get rid of it is to keep yourself inspired and keep doing whatever you’re doing at a 100% engagement level.

Time to get curious

Inspiration often comes from curiosity and the lack of it breeds boredom. Whenever you’re feeling bored, you can take a step back from your work, or project and find a way to get your curiosity back.

The best way to do this is by reading books or magazines that are related to your work. Don’t forget to check out some videos on YouTube or documentaries on online streaming sites. TED Talk is also a great platform to spark your curiosity. You can further satisfy your curiosity by doing your own research and look for answers.

Change your location or scenery

Some people have the opportunity to change the location of their workplace, e.g. freelancers, writers, programmers, etc. Whenever you feel bored, change your location and work someplace else. You can start by leaving your home and go to a coffee shop. Maybe you can meet some interesting people walking by or sitting down in the shop.

Places with more nature are also great alternatives. Go to a place with more trees and fewer people around. The quietness and fresh air can inspire you like you wouldn’t expect. Get your energy back and ready to be more productive.

Reward Yourself

All work and no play makes everyone dull. Working without rewarding yourself after it’s over is not healthy and can lead you to hate working. Question yourself, why do you even work in the first place? Isn’t it to get a reward later?

This will give you the motivation and inspiration that you need. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on the rewards, as long as it is interesting and exciting that should be good enough. You can reward yourself with a nice vacation overseas or good food that you’ve never had before. It can be pretty much anything that you like.

Learn a new skill

Learning new things has always been a great way to get rid of boredom. Not only that, but you also get a nice new set of skills in the future. Especially in this day and age where it’s much easier to learn new things, thanks to the internet.

These new skills don’t have to be anything serious or related to making a lot of money so you can quit your day job. But it’s definitely possible for that to happen.

It can be something niche and pure fun, e.g. gardening, DIY, a new language, and many more. Learning new things can give you the needed challenge that you may need in your life, opposed to popular entertainment which doesn’t make you grow. The key is to be consistent and persistent. Now you have something to look forward to during the day and see how far you can get with your progress.

Expand your social circle

Want to get inspiration? Try meeting new people. They can tell you about their lives, journeys, skills and talents, ambitions, and passions. You can learn a lot from others and use that knowledge to give you the inspiration to better yourself.

By learning what and how others are doing might give you the necessary information to help you improve yourself. Building a team consisting of new people can create cohesion and camaraderie. No more boredom in this kind of environment.

Exercise regularly

Most people are bored because they just sit every day and do nothing else. This makes everything feels boring and not to mention that it’s very unhealthy. Exercising is a challenge that can be made fun and exciting.

First, try to make a workout program to follow. It’s entirely up to you whether you need a gym membership or not. Follow the program and see if you can stick to the schedule without missing a day.

Jogging should be a good exercise to start, especially for people who don’t exercise regularly. It’s easy and flexible. You can use jogging as an excuse to go outside and explore the city as well. You can visit new places or meet new people while jogging. You can increase the challenge by jogging for a certain period or distance.

Feeling like everything is boring is very unhealthy for your mind and body. Losing interest in everything is like falling down a dark hole where you can’t see and feel anything. Don’t let yourself be in this kind of position for too long. You must pull yourself up and see the light.
