10 Mind Obstacles That Limit Your Growth
By Sophia Anderson
There’s a feeling that we have all had—that feeling when there’s a story, or future project, or even just a fraction of memory that is trapped in the back of our minds and we just can’t seem to let go. We feel trapped in this tiny little box of ours named head, and we just can’t grow anymore. We seem to stop developing our minds. We feel that there are some obstacles, which prevent us from expanding our minds. These obstacles are difficult to encounter, but we must confront them in order to evolve.
Buddha once said, “The mind is everything. What you think you become.” If you are strong enough to portray yourself succeeding and getting pass the indelible limit, you will. We just have to know how to work with the power of our minds. So, take a look at the list below and think about each obstacle – can you relate?
- Fear of a Change
Being afraid of changes means being afraid of living. Staying in your comfort zone forever is boring. You have to get out of the usual and explore the world around you. Be curious about what is out there, and conquer your fears with boldness. Changes bring in creativity and the loss of monotony – and that is never a bad thing, is it?
- Fear of Failure
First, if you are constantly afraid of failure, you are going to attract it to you. Second, who said that failing is a bad thing anyway? Failure shows us what we can improve. It points right at the things that go wrong in our lives and helps us make the necessary changes. That leads us straight to our next point.
- Lack of Vision
Sometimes we find ourselves lacking clear vision: what to do, how to do, or even why to do. Whether it is personal or career-related, we cannot imagine what the future is going to look like. We cannot know exactly the best approach that we need to apply to what we do. However, what we can be sure of is that visualizing this best way, and doing our utmost to achieve that, our vision will start to gain its form. It’s not that hard to practice, just allocate some minutes per day and imagine the growth of your personality in a desired sphere and in an environment that contributes to your development.
Elliot Weissenberg, CEO at AU Best Essays, shares his opinion. “There is no ‘perfect moment.’ There is just the present moment, which you can be part of or not. Living the present moment is the best thing you can do.”
Spending too much time pushing away important engagements is foolish – you will have to face them soon anyways, so why not get rid of them before relaxing? Procrastinating means laziness, and we all know it. So try to avoid it as much as possible.
- Little Focus
You cannot focus on two things at the same time. If you want to be good at something, take the time to do it remarkably. Do not stumble on other duties and tasks. Concentrate on the job you are doing, and do it perfectly. If you take multiple duties at the same time, you will find yourself overwhelmed and your focus is going to split between tasks. It is better doing one assignment at a time.
- Negative Attitude
Your attitude is really important for your growth. If you are negative about breaking the mental barrier, you will find it difficult to do so. If, on the other side, you are positive about it, and you set your mind on it, there are 100% that you will make it. It’s a matter of perspective and taking the right attitude to every aspect of your life.
- Monotonous Style
When everything is done in the same way and style, your mind gets stuck in the same automatic approach. It starts to lose its creativity. That is the moment when you need to change your routine and do things differently. Take another road to work, or drink your morning coffee in a different place. Do a yoga session or meditate instead of watching a new episode of Game of Thrones. Change something, even if it’s small!
- Planting Limitations
You might sometimes hear people say “I don’t have enough skills, and enough time for doing that.” And yet they haven’t even tried making time for it. Try to avoid these characters. Don’t plant negative seeds that will grow into pessimistic thoughts. Think positive and believe that you can conquer everything.
- Being Opinion Dependent
Waiting for someone to give you a pat on the back is not always worth it. You have to be yourself regardless of people’s opinions. Your values and authenticity must not suffer whenever someone judges you, and you should definitely not change your behavior according to the people around you. Don’t search for approval. Stay true to yourself and be genuine.
- Unjustified Self-Criticism
If you are too harsh on yourself, you are never going to see how much you have developed. Instead of being grateful for reaching a certain level of greatness, you will redundantly concentrate on evolving even more. Sometimes, you just have to stop what you are doing and thank yourself for everything that you are.
Putting a break on your creativity is not a good choice. That only leads to loss of vision and lack of focus. Being afraid of change or thinking negatively does the same thing. Let go of useless mind limits – have a break through and smile!
