Write Down Your Goals, Ideas, and Plans!

reaching goals

By Alex Moran

They say that a goal that is not written down is only a wish. There’s some truth on this saying because writing your goals can do wonders for you. If you are one of the college students who want to graduate and land your dream job, you should start by writing your goals.

Here are the reasons why:

  1. You Have a Clear Vision of What You Want
If you know what you want to accomplish, you will be more motivated to get it no matter how hard the circumstances that you are currently in. You can complete tasks on time, you are being forced to strategize, to monitor your progress, and find other methods of reaching your goal. For example, you can write your goal about graduation in a piece of paper, attach a picture of a student holding a diploma next to it, print it, and tape it on your dormitory wall. This way, you will have more motivation to study your subjects.
  2. You Align your Activities to Your Goals
If you have a goal in mind, you tend to do activities that will bring you a step closer to reaching your goals. You will study for that exam or get your essays done on time instead of hanging around the campus doing nothing. You have a clear idea of what you want to achieve at the end of the day. This is why goals are very important. It can give direction to your life. If you got stuck with an essay, you will be able to buy it online through sites such as This is a great alternative rather than letting the day pass with nothing done in the end.
  3. It Makes Your Goals Tangible and Real
Writing it on paper and seeing it in its physical form makes it real. You can write words that states “will” instead of “I would like to”. This gives power to your statements. For example, you might write in your goals that “you would like to get a grade of 98 in your Mathematics” rather than “I will get a grade of 98 in your Math subject.” The first sentence will make your brain think that it is okay to get a grade of less than 98 since it can be a good thing if you get it and it is okay if you won’t. The second sentence will make you do all the possible things there is in order to reach your goal of getting 98. It’s just a matter of perspective.

Other Tips in Reaching Your Goals

Nobody can tell what the future brings. This is why you have the potential to accomplish everything that you have set your mind into. Instead of spending every day doing the same things over and over again, make sure that you give your life direction. Here are other things that you can do starting today:

  1. Be a Dreamer
There’s no one stopping you to dream big. You have to give yourself the chance of getting the things you want in life. Deep inside, you might have goals that you might have been fantasizing about ever since you are little. Think of the things that you want to do if money and time is not a problem for you. It could be traveling to different places with your loved ones, owning a house, getting a car, and anything that you can think of. As the saying goes, what the mind can conceive, the body can achieve.
  2. Visualize Yourself of Achieving Your Dreams
You must get a clear mental picture of where you want to be five or ten years from now. You might want to set long-term and short-term goals. Keep in mind that your goals are just dreams that have specific deadlines. When you start dreaming, you have to make sure that you start in increments. For example, if you imagine yourself earning $10,000 a week and you are currently earning about $2,000 today, then this can be a realistic goal for you. On the other hand, if you jump from $2,000 a week to $50,000 a week, this dream can demotivate you. Therefore, you need to set achievable goals so that you can be confident that you can earn them.

A Final Word about Goals

Reaching your goals is easy. You have to write them on paper to make them tangible and you will have a clear vision of what you want for your future. Start writing them today. Don’t be afraid to dream big. Connect with people or read books that can help you reach achievable goals. Believe that everything that you have set your mind to is possible through hard and smart work, perseverance, and grabbing opportunities.
