Taking Control of Your Life

By Jade C. Pulman

You have probably heard that life is more about the journey than the destination. When taken seriously you will realize that perfection is something that seems silly and unreasonable. While everyone has their flaws and character defects you also know that humans have been making mistakes for ages. This will take some pressure off of you and let you understand that progress is so much better than being perfect.

Find Out What You Can Control

There are a lot of things that you think you can control but you actually can’t. You are not able to control others in your life and what they think or do. You can control yourself and how you interact with and respond to them. You may find out that they are not good for your life at all and you have the ability to stop allowing them into your life.

If you ever need a place to start you can always start with your room. You can control what goes on in it and what you want and don’t need in your life. Learning what you can control is a process that does not happen overnight so be patient with yourself.

Develop a Vision

What do you want from your life? This is something only you can answer. You get to decide what happens in your life, not your parents or friends. So take some time with yourself and figure out what you really want from this life.

You can create a visual representation of what you want (yes like a vision board) and how you can achieve it. If you don’t have time for a vision board you can always right down a checklist or a list of some kind if that is more your style.

Take Action

You can think and dream about it all you want but you will not achieve anything if you do not start taking some kind of action. This may look like sticking up for yourself by speaking up in a work situation or hiring a personal trainer. Maybe you were in an accident in the state of California and need to hire an Ontario injury lawyer because the accident was not your fault. Whatever the case, remember that you are in charge of your own healing.

Take a Serious Inventory

What is currently in your life whether it is physical, spiritual or emotional? What is it doing to you in your life? There are a lot of aspects in life that create faulty belief systems that really impede your growth and personal healing. You may want to find a therapist that can help direct and guide you as you take this personal journey. This could also be considered a way to take action but whatever you decide do not beat yourself up as you learn more about yourself and why you act the way you do. Just because you are not perfect does not mean you can’t change or heal yourself from your past to live a better future.

Reflect and Make Changes

After you have organized and straighten things out you will start to see places or things that you did not see the first time around. This allows you to do some reflecting and look at where you can improve.

This doesn’t mean you can let other things you have been working on go out the window but it does mean you have something to work towards if you think that you have arrived or finished.

Making changes in your life can be terrifying. But they are always worth it if it allows you to be free. As you start making positive changes and start controlling your life you will be able to see your problems differently. You can find peace in your life when you know that you have done everything you can do.
