Becoming the New You

By Mikkie Mills

With the New Year coming up, people are starting to make their goals for the coming months. Often, the goals have to do with weight loss or changing a major aspect of their lives—like a job or finding a new home. The goals almost always are something that the person has needed to change but hasn’t had the right excuse to change. Something that you need to understand, however, is that you don’t need an excuse to change your life. Rather than waiting for New Year's Eve to make your goals, start now.

1. Understand that Now is the Best Time for Change

The common joke is that the gym is always fullest in the first two months of the year. After that, the New Year's Resolutions start to fade, and the people stop coming. Then those people wait the entire rest of the year just so they can start their goals all over again. It becomes a vicious cycle of failures that leave people feeling like they can never complete their goals. Rather than waiting for the new year, start now. If you start the habit of not waiting, then you’ll come to know how to pick yourself back up off the floor after a failure. If you’re able to start now, you won’t procrastinate the changes that could happen today. So take charge of your life and don’t wait for an excuse to make a change in your life. The only right time for a change is now. There’s an old proverb that tells the story of a man planting a tree. He asks when the best time to plant a tree is and an old man responds that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. Don’t wait to start a goal. Go after your dreams today.

2. Make Realistic Goals

Another reason why people often fail their New Year’s goals is that the goals are unrealistic. People look at the supermodels on magazines and model their fitness goals after an unattainable image. Other people dream of making it to Forbes within a month. They are setting themselves up just to watch themselves fail. If you want to succeed, set attainable goals. If you’re setting a weight loss goal, make sure that it’s something that you know that you can reach. If you’re planning to lose anything above 3 lbs a week, the goal is approaching unattainable. Research has proved that 3 lbs or less is a realistic weight loss goal and anything else is unhealthy for your body.

3. Make a Plan to Reach Your Goal

People often don’t reach their goals because they don’t have a plan to get there. Plans are so important if you want to reach something specific. Without a plan, determination often wanes, and you might start to forget that you made a goal in the first place. The more work that goes into your plan, there more the goal will be on your mind throughout the day. The more you’re thinking about the goal, there more likely you are to succeed. Reaching a goal has a lot to do with your mindset and how you set your intentions. If you make a goal to get rid of some of the health issues in your life, take the steps that you need to take. Get the hidradenitis suppurativa cream treatment or the back massager or anything else that you need. Make sure that you’re making a step by step plan to get where you want to be in order to get there.

4. Put Everything Together

Once you have everything planned out, the next step is easy. All you have to do is stick to it. First, you have to start trying to reach your goal with the plan that you’ve made. The next thing that you need to do is just to keep going. Don’t let yourself quit. Have people around you who can be there to hold you accountable to your goals.

Your goals need to be attainable and realistic. But they also should be pushing you to achieve something new. You should feel excited about the change and the goodness that it could bring to your life.
