How to Get More Done While Doing Less Work

By Elliot Caleira

You have to take time to relax. It's the only way to live a quality life. If you're constantly on the go, you need to think of efficient ways of getting in relaxation while still being productive. Consider these ways to relax while being productive.

If you're a person who doesn't typically ask for help, it's time to start thinking of your options. Placing the burden on yourself for housework and other work will cause you to work all the time without relaxing. Asking other people for help helps you to balance out relaxation with work. Create a chore chart for everyone in the family so that you can take time to relax. Another option is hiring out to get housework done. For example, hire a steam carpet cleaning company to clean your carpets, rugs and furniture while you take a nap or lounge outside.

Increase Output While Decreasing Effort

Don't focus on being busy. Focus on results. You can do this while cleaning the house, working, commuting or anything else you have to do. If you need your car washed, leave 20 minutes early while you're on your way to work and stop at an automatic car wash. Get a coffee to go and sip it while you roll on through. Increase your earnings while doing the work that you love.

Find Your Flow

Everybody has a flow state or a zone they can tap into that makes life easier. When you're in the zone, you are relaxed, rested, and you're more productive. Everybody's zone is different, so you have to consider what gets you there. For some, it can be cool weather, hypnotic music, plush socks or drinking tea. You have to think carefully of what you really love, and submerge yourself in it. Also, it has been found that if you are trying to do something for the first time, you're not going to naturally get into the zone while doing it. However, you can at least be comfortable otherwise while doing something new, and that'll help you to relax.

If you can't find an easier way to do work or otherwise delegate it, you can actually relax while doing work by seeking comfort. Wear comfortable clothing, eat warm soup on a cold day or lounge in the pool. Being comfortable will help you to feel relaxed and less stressed while doing your work.

Residual Income

Residual income is a way to continue to increase your money without expending additional energy or effort to do so. In real estate, residual income comes by way of rental properties. Using the internet, you can earn income through pay-per-click and other methods. Find ways of earning income without continuing to put out effort so that you can take time relax.

The simple fact is that you do more when you are relaxed. If you find yourself getting stressed, it's time to retreat because you're not going to be productive anyway. Deep breathing can help you to instantly de-stress, but you need to consider some long-term ways to get rid of stress too. For instance, take up yoga, start running or do something else that is active to work out stress. If you need to read a book, consider listening to an audio version of the book while you workout. If you're a writer, record what you want to write vocally while you relax.

Life is short, so you need to live each day to the fullest. There are many ways to relax if you take time to think about how. When considering productivity, don't think of it in terms of effort. Being overly productive for the sake of saving time just wastes it. You need to balance your life with relaxation to enjoy your time.
