Combining Astrology and Meditation
for Self-Development

By Sarah Roberts

Why do people typically choose to get an astrology, tarot, or numerology reading? Regardless of someone’s present life circumstances, people get a reading because they want to know more about themselves. Having a daily meditation practice can also bring about clarity, awareness, and overall peace of mind. So, what if we were to combine astrology and meditation in a daily practice?

Have you ever considered what a deep meditation on your personal birth chart would reveal about you? Using these tools in tandem for self-development can be an enlightening experience, that will bring you more in tune with the patterns, cycles, and rhythms of your own life.

Answering the Big Questions

There are deep questions in life that we can choose to ask, ignore, or maybe we just have no interest in contemplating. For some people, however, these questions are burning inside and often play out in the scenarios of our relationships, love life, families, and careers. We often wonder, why am I here? What is my purpose in life? Why do I keep repeating myself?

Both astrology and meditation have the power for understanding yourself better. Knowing yourself gives you the authority over how you respond to each situation in life. Instead of being reactionary or taking action based on what life throws at you; instead you have the potential to direct your own destiny.

Taking control over your own actions, thoughts, and emotions will allow you to have a greater experience of authenticity and also reduce anxiety about life’s “big questions.” Meditation is practiced for many different reasons and within many different cultural contexts.

Know Thyself

Maybe you have heard this statement, “Know Thyself.” This axiom is inscribed in ancient Greek on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi in Greece. This seemingly simple phrase has a very deep relationship with astrology, meditation, and other spiritual practices. By gaining deeper insight into who you are, through these tools, you are better able to interact, achieve, and live in harmony with yourself.

A birth chart is like a map of potential, only you can activate the components and pieces in becoming who you really are. Meditation can bring deep seated issues to the forefront that you need to work on. It can help quiet your mind and bring your attention to the places you want to go. Understanding who you really are is more than just your personality profile, it is a deep reflection of your psyche, soul, and being.

In Greek mythology Apollo is an interesting character. He is the God of the Sun, or enlightenment, but also had foresight and prophet like abilities. Taken a step further we can look at the “Know Thyself” phrase to be the catalyst towards our own enlightenment. Towards the opening of spirit growth, psychic abilities, and greater self-awareness.

How to Combine Astrology and Meditation: Where to Start?

Now that you have a framework for what astrology and meditation can offer; let’s put the two into practice. If you know the basics of your own birth chart; such as Sun sign, Moon sign, and Rising sign you can meditate on the meanings for you personally.

A good place to start is with your Moon sign. In Astrology, the Moon represents how we nurture ourselves, our instincts, and gut reactions. It is often associated with how we respond and react. Knowing more about your Moon sign can give you further insight into who you are and even help you predict and analyze your own emotional response and reactions to life’s situations.

Meditating on your Moon sign is an excellent place to really get in touch with your core essence and personality. The Moon changes sign every two and a half days making your Moon sign unique to your birth chart. There is often mystery surrounding the Moon in one’s chart and getting to know this part of your astrology can help answer a lot of questions about yourself.
