Four Actions to Achieving Peace

We all want to find peace in our lives. There’s a part of us that wants to be happy no matter the cost. We have all entertained the thoughts of giving up the comforts of a steady life to run off to Hollywood or to the Circus and do something that we have only dreamed of doing. To dream like that is just to be human and there’s nothing wrong with being human. You can find love and peace and happiness in a steady life as long as you take the right steps to get to it.

  1. Learn to Love Yourself
    The first step to finding peace is learning to love yourself despite all your quirks and mistakes that you’ve made. You need to know that everyone makes mistakes and that everyone deserves to be forgiven. To heal, you need to forgive yourself. Forgiving yourself is the first step of learning to love yourself. From then on, you need to show yourself love. If you live with a spouse or a child, there are ways that you show that individual love. You may tell them that you love them or you might do kind things or give them gifts. Whatever your love language is, you need to show yourself those same acts of love so that you will know that you love yourself. You shouldn’t treat yourself like you would treat a dog--by rewarding and punishing. You should treat yourself like a best friend and know that it’s okay to have a bad day.
  2. Pick Up Hobbies That You’ve Always Wanted to Try
    The next thing that you will want to do is to try something new. Trying something new is a great way to get yourself out of a rut and learn a new skill that will benefit your life for years to come. It could be as simple as researching something that you’ve always been interested in. If you’ve been curious and light and solar panels then take a day to research and find out about the different types of solar panels that there are. If you’ve wanted to learn to play a new instrument, then take a few hours every week and dedicate that time to learning. Setting aside time to learn something new will help you to feel more gracious and loving towards yourself.
  3. Try Meditation or Yoga
    Meditating and yoga aren’t for everyone. But, you won’t know for sure until you give them both a try. At the very least, meditate before you go to bed. An easy way to start meditating is just by sitting or lying in a comfortable position and try to clear your mind. You can also try breathing exercises that relax each muscle in your body one at a time. As you do that, you will be able to fully relax your body and find the peace that lies just below the surface. You might also want to try yoga. There are different types of yoga that all focus on something different. What they all have in common is that they focus on bringing your mind, body, and breath, all in contact with one another. The purpose is to connect to a higher power within yourself and find that you have strength that you weren’t aware of before. It helps that yoga focuses and relaxes your muscles by stretching and lengthening them.
  4. Smile More
    If your life feels like it is falling apart bit by bit, try to smile. If you have diagnosed depression, then the case might be different. If you’re going through a hard time, however, try to put a smile on your face. Often, your emotions react to your body language. If your body language tells your emotions to be sad, then they will. But if you can smile and have your body language tell yourself that you're happy, then it will be a lot easier to be happy.

If you focus on the good things in life, then those will be the things that matter most. Try to take the small steps in life that will lead you to peace.
