Emotional Health or Emotional Wellness?

Many people are beginning to recognize what sensitive people have known for a very long time--improving your emotional health or emotional wellness is the fastest way to improve your mental health and physical health. New research comes out every week about how lack of emotional expression causes disease.

I like to define my new, holistic psychology terms clearly so people know what I am talking about since many professionals use the same words but with different meanings.

  • Emotional health is the rock bottom essential amount of emotional safety and physical comfort you need in daily life in order to be secure, stable and relaxed.

  • Emotional Wellness goes a notch beyond healthy into having more vibrant moments, peak experiences and peak performances.

I would never just settle for Emotional Health. I want to glow, radiate and shine with color. Give me the extra energy flow and peaks. The "The Vibrant Moment" exists as a weekly newsletter to give you the tools you need to meet your emotional needs so you radiate with vibrancy.

A fact: There are very few people who are emotionally safe to be with... there are very few people you can share your feelings and emotions with... without being judged, humiliated, make fun of or criticized. 'Tis true.

For a solution to this emotional health problem, this current emotional reality on planet Earth, "What do you do?" As I consistently teach, do not look outside for any answer. Instead. Look inside. Inside is where you can create emotional safety if you want to be emotional healthy.

The necessary ingredient is self acceptance. Simple, pure and powerful. When you learn to accept your own feelings, your own emotions and your real response to each event or situation in your life... you begin to provide the necessary emotional safety you need to become secure, stable and relaxed.

Here is an Emotional Health Exercise to get you started...

Get up and move around the room without thinking. Do not allow your mind to direct your body. Your body can tell you how fast your thoughts are moving, if you let your body move to the speed of your thoughts. Let your body go and move as fast as your thoughts are telling you to move. Really take note of how fast you are pushing yourself. Also note the exact words that are getting away with ruining your day. Notice if your thoughts are too slow or heavy. Notice if you are numb or dull.

Most people have racing thoughts. To counteract this pushy mental brain behavior sit down and do not move until you have slowed down your pace. Bypass your thoughts and dive into your feelings. What are you feeling in your body? What are your emotions? Do not move until you find and pay attention to your inner emotional self. Listen to your emotional self. Receive your emotional truth. Here are your much needed answers.

Allow your body and emotional self to tell you exactly what he or she needs before you move again. Make sure you meet your physical and emotional needs before the day is done. Otherwise she or he will not trust you so easily again.
