The best jobs in NYC - how to get them? And where?

It's hard to set apart only a handful of jobs and call them the best ones you can find. After all, the notion of 'the best job' is an individual thing. However, we'll set apart four jobs that are fun, unique, and pay well. After hearing about some of them, we guarantee you'll be enticed to pack up your bags, book a flight, and move to NYC. Of course, before you do that, you'll first want to secure one of these jobs. Do you have any idea how expensive moving is? If you don't, getting informed about moving quotes in advance might do you some good. You'll definitely want to be ready for the price tag that comes with relocation. Without further ado, here are the four jobs that caught our eye.

Director of special events

Have you ever dreamed about meeting Hollywood A-listers? As a director of special events, that will be a part of your job description. The other part of your job will be to work on making the best and most elaborate parties and fundraisers happen. You'll be in charge of a lot of things - from attending food and beverage tastings to creating very elaborate strategies. But it will all be worth it once you actually get a free pass at seeing some of the greatest performers of this century live on stage.

How to get this job? Of course, you'll need the right set of skills first. A person with this job needs to be communicative and must possess great organizational skills. Besides that, it would be great if you had some degree in food & beverage or hospitality programs, but this isn't always a requirement. But before you can start organizing A-list events, you'll need to work as an intern on smaller parties. Don't be afraid to do anything - from kids' parties to weddings. It's how you'll gain valuable experience as well as a good reputation.

Plastic and reconstructive surgeon

With a median annual salary of $510,600, one can clearly see why being a plastic surgeon is not only one of the best jobs in NYC - it's also one of the most profitable ones. It's true that a lot of other specialties can trump plastic surgery when it comes to earnings. But plastic surgery has become more popular nowadays, meaning there's more work for plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Hey, some people think of small plastic surgeries as their way of dealing with stress, and who are we to judge?

Obviously, you will need a lot of qualifications if you want to get this job. Getting a job as an attending isn't easy, but the struggle of getting it pays off. You'll have to start applying to different hospitals and attend interviews. The good news is that this is NYC we are talking about - with so many hospitals and so many people looking for plastic surgeons, you'll have great chances of getting your ideal job.

Clinical Pharmacist

The job of a clinical pharmacist isn't to be confused with the one of a regular pharmacist. A clinical pharmacist works directly with patients and medical professionals, which usually occurs in medical centers. Their job is to determine the best medicine and treatment for a patient or a symptom in question. That sounds like a lovely job, right? But how do you get one?

A clinical pharmacist in New York City must possess a doctorate degree in pharmacy. That's the main requirement. Previous work experience is desirable but not mandatory. Usually, there are over 200 job openings for this position, and all you have to do is hunt down the right one. That shouldn’t be too hard to do if you love what you do and are good at it!

Magician

While the job of a magician can be taught to some extent, we all have to agree that it also takes a certain talent. Depending on your skills, you could go on to become a famous magician who will perform in front of celebrities. These days, many hotels offer nights with performances such as this one, and you can rest assured that they pay really well. But to get a job as a magician, which isn't a conventional job, you'll also have to be a smart businessman who can market himself/herself.

For starters, you can rest assured that you will face many challenges down the road. You'll have to perfect your skills in the privacy of your own home, then you'll have to perform in front of an audience and see how they react to your tricks and make any necessary tweaks in your show. Then you'll really be able to start promoting yourself and find a regular spot where you will perform your tricks. The beauty of being a magician is that you never know who is going to show up at one of your shows. A Nobel Prize winner? A famous celebrity? It’s all fair game.

See something you like?

If you do, then don't hesitate to go for it! The best jobs in NYC are usually the most competitive ones. Don't waste any time or someone else might take up your spot - the spot that you deserve!
